British American Auto Repair
I give Michael my highest recommendation without reservation! I have been a customer for over a year, and my older car has needed much TLC. Having needed another recent repair, there aren't adequate words to express my gratitude to Michael for his true concern about my situation, and the care he takes in diagnosing and fixing the problem. I've never known a mechanic so meticulous, who goes to such great lengths to ensure I understand the problem, who is also extremely sensitive to my need to have my car back as soon as possible, and who also keeps costs at a minimum *without* compromising quality and safety, his foremost concern. I've owned cars for decades, and have had experience with many mechanics over time, and have never encountered one with such integrity, honesty, and quality of service. You will never have to worry about entrusting your car to Michael and his excellent team.

Love Michael and his sons. Always happy to help and take the extra time to give my car the once over for possible issues I may not know about. I moved here three years ago after having the same mechanic where I came from for 20 plus years. I was concerned about finding someone I could trust who would give me the straight information and not try to "upsell" me. I found it in Michael's British American. It ain't fancy, but I'm far more interested in honest, friendly service than I am in any cushy waiting room! I have a 6 year old vehicle that I know I can keep on the road for a long time to come with these folks looking out for me. Two thumbs all the way up!

Thanks Mike and sons for the great experience. From the moment I walked into your shop I knew I was in the right placed as I was pleasantly greeted as soon as I walked into the repair shop. I'm so relieved to finally to finally find an independent repair shop with your courteous and professional service. Your communication and knowledge were terrific as well. My car is a Nissan Altima which I've owned for nine years. Mike and his sons were able to diagnose, repair and advise of future needed repair, in detail, to keep my car in fine working shape. Thanks again Mike and sons, you were great!

George has fixed my car mulitple times. The first time, he repaired my clutch and really helped me out while I was in a bind. He's also taken a look at my transmission for me and gave me honest advice. I would trust these guys to work on any vehicle at any time, and I would highly recommend British American Auto Repair to anyone in Daytona Beach. Make sure you call George & Peggy for any auto repair needs!!!

Tips & Advices
In some cases, it's worth repairing an old alternator. If some parts go bad, they can be inexpensive to repair. For example, alternator belts can be quite cheap, and parts and labor for handling this repair will run you between $100 and $125 for most vehicles, which is significantly less than the cost of a new alternator. If the total cost of the repair exceeds 50 percent of the cost of replacing the alternator, it makes sense to invest in a new alternator.
If your car's alternator has gone bad, you may be able to squeeze in a short journey, but the car's battery will drain very quickly without the alternator's support. Stop-and-go traffic will place even more pressure on the battery, and so will using auxiliary items such as the radio, air conditioning, heater, windshield wipers, and headlights.
A one-wire alternator is a type of alternator that can be easily put into place with the installation of a single wire. The key benefit that these alternators bring is that they are simple to install.  However, many one-wire alternators provide low output when the car's engine is idle, and this can burden the car's electrical system if you're idling at a red light with the headlights and stereo on. Some one-wire alternators also require you to rev the car's engine to a certain rpm to activate the alternator and begin the charging process.
The most common cause of alternator failure is a weak battery. Your car's alternator works very hard to keep your car's battery fully charged, and, if the battery is weak, it can put a great deal of stress on the alternator. The alternator will increase its output to try and keep the battery charged, and this will eventually overtax the alternator and cause it to fail prematurely.
Your alternator's regulator is an automotive part that monitors and oversees the process by which your car's battery is charged. The regulator also supports the alternator by reducing the stress that is placed on the alternator's drive belts, tensioning pulley, and bearings. The regulator may be located inside or outside of the alternator's housing.
