Highland Park Animal Hospital
was referred to Highland Park Animal Hospital by one of the veterinary specialists in Dallas as a place that might be a good fit for me and my little Molly who has been diagnosed with cancer and undergoing chemo. I attended an Open House recently and was so impressed with the new hospital and everyone that I met. They were all very welcoming and obviously enthusiastic and dedicated to being the best. Molly and I had our first appointment with Dr. Gretchen Wright this week and I was touched by her compassion towards us in this situation. Molly needed a good general veterinarian as part of her team which is complete now that we are with this hospital and Dr. Wright.

I was able to get my sick kitty in there right away and they were very nice and very professional. I left her overnight so they could make sure of her diagnosis. Picked her up the next day and she was so much better. Expenses were quite reasonable and excellent care. I will keep going there! All the staff were friendly and the Doctor was terrific!

The manager and vets should be fired and have to personally pay for my bill for having to take my chihuahua to the Mansfield ER the same night after coming to banfield that day. In short, the vet was more interested in talking about his cats than listening to my dogs symptoms. The vet did a physical eval and overlooked the obvious pain spots in the stomach and focused on the rashes all over my baby due to allergies. I tried to explain about his yelping while trying to defecate and lethargy with constipation or bad diarrhea but the vet ran no blood panel or any tests at all. He just gave me something for the allergies and said everything would be fine. BUT IT WASN'T. If the vet followed protocol after all the symptoms I described, a blood panel, fecal and CPI test would have been confirmed, stating my baby had very serious pancreatitis and was extremely dehydrated which you could tell by his tacky gums. He was prescribed no pain medicine. I'm not the expert so I didn't question (this is why I am taking classes to get my associates as a vet tech). My baby had to wait 8 more painful hours until he started screaming while straining to poop with slight blood trickling out and I rushed him to the ER. The vet tech listened intently and her and I and the vet had an actual back and forth conversation about my dog and the first thing they did was run a blood panel and came to the conclusion faster than the banfield vet got done with his incompetent exam. My bill was 1800$ and my baby had to stay overnight for fluids and all kinds of antibiotics and pain medicines. My problem was not about the money, everything could have been done at banfield, at a discount since I am a 10+ year wellness plan member. When I called to complain the manager was extremely rude and protected the vet even though she wasn't in the room and grilled me like everything was my fault. I called corporate 50 times. I was refunded 70$ and never got an apology and no one asked about my dog. He almost died.

I like to have the same vet for my animals and so I request and call ahead of time for that vet. Unfortunately they do not honor requests and you get who ever they want you to have that day. I called three times to make sure the vet I wanted to get was there and was told to come in and then they gave me to another vet who was rushed, not personable, and since I have two dog think that maybe the dosage for their meds was not correct. One of our doggies is not doing well tonight. i was not told to expect any symptoms like being unable to walk. I do not like being put with a vet I did not request and had no confidence in her treatment.

I would not let this place take care of a goldfish, much less my dog. They are responsible for losing TWO dogs. One is still missing and the other got hit by a car because of how careless they are with their animals. I hope by leaving this review I help to save someones dog from the same outcome.

My two yellow labs have been patients now for one year with Dr. Tony Meyers and Ginger. I want people to know how great this office is not only during the first visit but every single time you visit. One of my dogs has diabetes and is insulin dependent twice a day. It was a huge adjustment for me at first and a big challenge but Ginger and Dr. Meyers helped us get over this major obstacle and today she is doing amazing. They will follow up with you, make sure you are informed and most important of all is you will feel that they truly care about your pet. I am forever grateful to this office and honestly cannot recommend them enough if you are looking for a top of the line highly educated and experienced vet office . Thank you Dr. Meyers, Ginger, Jaimie and Meagan for everything you do and for helping my girl this past year! you are my heros.

Excellent vet. Dr. Landers has been taking care of my 4 for years now, and he is a great doctor! He will tell it to you straight taking the time to explains options. He is the only vet I've found that won't recommend something they don't need. My husband said it best - he is a better doctor than our physicians and it's too bad we can't go to him. I have saved so much money taking advantage of the annual plans they offer. And Caroline is an extraordinarily organized and kind staff member who always remembers all my furkids and their conditions and she even accommodates my physical limitations when scheduling and picking up without my having to ask for assistance.

You cannot trust this place. I personally spoke with one of the vet's, Dr. Suarez, and was told that a minor procedure on my elderly dauchund would be $350. Due to that large expense I left and returned two weeks later when I had the funds readily available. I foolishly gave them my debit card number to charge the procedure and was shocked to find a $599 charge to my bank account. I called Dr. Suarez and asked her if she remembered our conversation earlier in the month. She said she did but the $350 must have been a deposit towards the procedure, not the full expense. I have a Master Degree in Business and now the difference in a deposit and paid in full. She tried to blame the charge on my daughter who has not understanding of money . I told her that was why I called her and discussed this charge specifically BEFORE it was carried out. This is a dishonest establishment that preys on the emotions of loving pet owners. BE WARNED

Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.

  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
