All Pets Vet Hospital
Interestingly, like the review below, my first visit with Dr. Towles was for my cat with kidney failure. However, my experience was very different. I noticed my cat was not eating as much, and sleeping a lot, so I brought her in. Dr. Towles recognized it right away, and did the needed tests to diagnose it. She explained everything about her condition in great detail. I have Dr. Towles to thank for my cat living as long as she did. My experience at all pets has been far superior to any other vets in the area, or my previous vets in Atlanta. You really can't beat the quality of service, and character of this place. I would never trust my animals with anyone else. Sure its not some big fancy state of the art office, but who cares?! Once I was in the waiting room and witnessed Dr. Towles leave a room after putting a dog down, after all of her years of practice, needing a tissue. Not to discredit the review below, but that does not seem like a negligent vet to me. These are genuine people that care WAY more about your animals than your wallet. Can you say that about your vet? Didn't think so. If you want a quality vet with a soul then go see Dr. Towles. Otherwise, enjoy paying an extra 50% for a "fancy" facility with far less heart.By the way, I highly recommend their grooming too!

New Hope Animal Hospital
On January 4, 2014 our 5 pound Chichuchu, became ill. We took him to our regular vet, Dr. Clay Leathers at the New Hope Animal Hospital. Doctor Leathers diagnose him with a foreign object in this digestive track. Immediate surgery would be required. The doctor and his staffed stayed after normal working hours to perform the operation. With the Lord guiding his hands Dr. Leathers removed the object, our puppy would be OK.Dr Leathers kept us informed every step of the way. He decided that leaving a small puppy in the hospital all week-end, would not be in his best interest, he took our dog home with him to recover. He called and text ed us throughout the week end to keep us informed about our dog's condition. Our puppy has made a full recovery and is doing well thanks to the Doctors and staff. We can not say enough to praise the Doctors and staff. They are professionals who love what they do. One can immediately see the love of animals each staff member has. We can, without reservation, recommend the New Hope Animal Hospital to anyone wanting top notch care for their pet.

All Pets Vet Hospital
All Pets & Dr. Towles are the best I've found since summer of 2006 when I moved here! Current pet 'examined' by 5 vets in past 2 yrs because I think he's underweight , and he vomits sporadically. All 5 said he's healthy and reply some cats are thin when I question his skin & bones look. Last vet did CBC blood work and determined 'normal'; also ear swabs(yeast infection reported in printout I got paying bill) Never addressed by vet. Towles prescribed med for evident infection, found urinary infection (treated, thank you). And, in process of determining reason for low weight. This vet is sharp, knows her stuff; she and her staff impress me as highly competent and caring professionals. A wonderful experience to finally find a vet who can look at my pet and have an intelligent idea of what might be wrong and then follow through with logical testing choices. So much better than hearing "Well, we can run a series of tests....." which is always accompanied by a vacant stare at the exam room walls, thereby avoiding eye contact.

New Hope Animal Hospital
Dr. Clay and his staff are truly loving people. I have never been treated as kind and have never had as good of care taken with my pet. I am so proud of Dr. Clay and what he has accomplished. Everyone should go to New Hope Animal Hospital for the best pet care there is. I have followed Dr. Clay most of his career. I had the distinct pleasure of teaching him in third grade and watching him grow into a very respectable young man. It is evident when you walk into his office and every single one of his workers stop to speak to you. He has great bed side manner for the animals. New Hope Animal Hospital is the place to be. If the office is alive, then it is well worth the drive to get that kind of support and attention. Way to go Dr. Clay and crew.

New Hope Animal Hospital
New Hope Animal Hospital is truly one in a million. Every person that works there is absolutely amazing. They actually care about every single animal that is brought in and they go above and beyond every single time. I take my 5 dogs there and I will NEVER go to another vet. Both Clay & Valerie Leathers take their time discussing the situation/information about my pets and they let me know about ALL treatment options. They NEVER try to take advantage of you or get more money from you and their prices are extremely reasonable. And on top of all of that- they are also involved in the community and give a lot back. I am so incredibly grateful for Dr. Leathers and his entire team at New Hope Animal hospital.

New Hope Animal Hospital
We have been looking for a good vet clinic for our dogs since leaving Athens over 10 years ago. We have tried and tried vet offices in the Atlanta area with no success. This vet loves our pit bulls and is not out to nickel and dime you. They will give you the necessary tests and medicines at the lowest price possible. Another vet in the area would give us unecessary charges, tests, and would not commit to the pet meds pricing. This vet automatically changed all store prices to reflect pet meds pricing on the spot when I asked about it. This vet is the most worth it in the Dallas and Acworth area. Thank you.

I could tell that day dealing with them that they really cared for the animals in there care. We lost the puppy that day but Dr. Leathers did everything he could to help and he took the time to talk to us and explain everything that had happen we have been back several time with our dogs since that day and have always been treated with the upmost respect and love for our furbabies! Love this place and Dr. Leathers!!!!

New Hope Animal Hospital
Excellant Vet! I drove over 45 minutes to go to this vet because so many people said that it was above and beyond and it def. was. One of my pets had surgery recently and my wife and I were at ease because Dr. Leathers and his staff treated our dog like family. She was loved on and care for exceptionally well. Her surgery was preformed without problem and the wound was stiched perfectly. You can fully trust this vet and will not find a more friendly staff, clean facility, and knowledgable dr. around.

Dr. Leathers and the staff at New Hope Animal Hospital are nothing short of amazing! I am always able to get an appointment when it is most convenient for my schedule and the girls up front are always so nice. The vet techs are so great with my "babies" during their visits and I know they are in good hands when I have left them for surgeries in the past. I have never felt rushed at this office, and Dr. Leathers always explains everything so well! Wonderful animal hospital!

New Hope Animal Hospital
Our precious kitty developed organ disease last week. Worked w/ both Dr. Clay and Dr. Valerie Leathers. Both are exceptionally caring human beings. Felt a genuine compassion for my furry companion and my family. All info was explained up front and in detail. They were also generous in making outcome-based recommendations. As owners/ doctors for this animal practice, I feel they are making a steadfast effort to be a community asset.
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
