05/21/2014Mountain View At Rivergreens
I lived at Mountain View for five years in three different units: a one bedroom (when I was single), a two-bedroom flat, and finally, a two-bedroom townhouse. If you don't mind that the apartments are located on the south end of town (a few miles from city center), you'll enjoy the location. They are in a nice neighborhood and right next to the lovely Willamette Park, where you can walk/bike next to the river. There is also a smaller park just to the south (across the street), which kids will enjoy. Obviously, I liked the apartments overall because I stayed there for so long. Pros: 1) Ken and Kitty (the managers) live on-site and do a truly fantastic job. They are professionals, and they (along with their staff) respond promptly to concerns and keep the place in great shape. If neighbors are loud or disruptive, they are very proactive and deal with it right away. 2) There are a mix of families, students, and single professionals living there, so it's not generally a loud, partying complex like some of the other places in town. 3) When something breaks, maintenance will come out and fix it right away. 4) Also, there are a number of community events on site, a couple of small gyms and study rooms, and a nice, cozy community room that's air conditioned in the summers, not to mention a pool. Cons: There are a few downsides to living here, as there would be anywhere. 1) One thing you should know is that the walls in this place are thin. VERY. THIN. Whoever built the apartments was obviously cheap and inclined to cut corners. If your neighbors talk loudly or put their TV next to your wall, you will hear it as if it is in your own house. If you are in an upstairs unit, you will hear the people below you talking, playing music, etc. I heard every fight that my downstairs neighbors had for an entire year, and sometimes my husband and I would just lay in bed laughing because it was all so absurd. I was never in a downstairs unit, but I imagine that it would be very noisy with someone walking above you on walls that thin. That was my #1 complaint with the apartment - for goodness sake, I wish these companies would insulate the walls! That being said, if your neighbors are excessively loud or are loud past 10pm, you can call management, and they will shut them down. However, what I'm talking about is normal, daily noise that isn't your neighbor's fault, but you will hear it because of the design flaw in the freakishly thin walls. 2) My other complaint is that even though smoking is not allowed on the apartment grounds, people will stand and smoke up a storm on the sidewalk right next to the apartment.
When my family stayed in Oregon for five months, At Home in Oregon made our stay easy and pleasant. The home we stayed in, Roseberry Cottage, was comfortable and welcoming. It was fully furnished with everything we needed, which made it possible for us to move for such a short time period. Best of all, the people with At Home in Oregon were always fair and professional, and responded to all our needs quickly. I can recommend staying with At Home in Oregon without reservation!
