If you are looking for an AUTHENTIC Mexican dining experience in Columbus, run - DO NOT WALK - to Playa Largo! (To give you a clue as to how authentic this restaurant is, the menu is in Spanish and the clientele when I was there was almost entirely of Hispanic or Latino descent.) Absolutely excellent and quite delicious mix of tasty home-style cooking, as well as traditional American/Mexican "fusion" dishes and very near gourmet grade Mexican dishes. Service is at a relaxed pace, and food was served by several members of the cooking staff when I dined there with a friend. Having lived previously in both Texas and Southern California, this humble establishment was exactly what I had been missing! Not for everyone if you prefer familiar Americanized Mexican served at lunch-hour pacing, but If you are somewhat adventurous in your eating preferences, try Playa Largo. You will NOT be disappointed.
I have not had much on the menu, but the romano crusted chicken is more than enough reason to go back. It's one of those things where I'd like to try other stuff on the menu, but it's just so good that I find myself ordering it every time. I'm only giving this 4 stars because I've been in larger parties where several people were disappointed with their food (one of these occasions was an Easter brunch so I know that's kind of a crazy day where things are bound to go wrong) so I dunno. In any case, I'll keep going back and keep ordering the romano crusted chicken until it lets me down. So far, so good! Also, I think it's worth noting that the staff has always been helpful anytime there was an issue, and they have always been nice in my experience. A little niceness goes a long way!
My husband and I came in from Indiana to visit our son who goes to The Ohio State University(Go Buckeyes!) last weekend and we wanted to have a hot breakfast before touring Campus with our son and found this little Diner not to far from his apartment off Weber Road. I wasn't too sure what to expect, not knowing the area, but what a pleasure, the food and service was GREAT and even got to talk to the "new" owner , who made the experience even better, she apologized for our slight wait , but I understood , they were very busy and a new cook, but as I explained it gave my husband and I a chance to "tie" our son down and see how the past 6 months away from home has been..lol..Service was wonderful, we will definitely add Louie's DayBreak Diner to our Favorites...Tom and Barb Walker..
We went there for my son's birthday dinner. It was very packed which is expected on a weekend. The gentleman at the front said since it's his birthday he could get a free gourmet burger. Wait time was suppose to be 25 mins but we waited around 45, people who came in after us was somehow seated before us with the same amount of guests. When we were finally seated the table & floor especially was filthy then the waitress informed us that my son couldn't get a free gourmet burger but they would do the birthday song and a sundae. My son didn't get any of that, instead we got crappy service and we didn't even get everything we ordered! Food was good, service crappy! Very disappointed!
Yes, the se[ING was well lit and the atmosphere friendly. I was hoping for a quite more romantic venue but I guess you don't get that in a bistro. The Vegetable Plate that my girlfriend had asher main course was quite fantastic. It showed a lot of thought was put into it and not just a mishmash of freshly cooked and prepared veggies. We started off with the calamari which was very good and wonderfully seasoned. It was my dish that kind of disappointed me. The sticky rice was a bit hard on the edges and the red snapper, although light and flakey, just didn't have enough seasoning to make it pop. Overall a pleasant experience.
My only gripe with this place is that they have delicious, self-serve coffee outside for the people patiently waiting for a table, but you can't add it to your tab if you partake. I never carry cash so I had to run to an ATM just to make sure I didn't end up on Santa's naughty list this year. Other than that, it's heaven. The food is excellent, and the portions are more than generous. This is hearty, southern-style comfort food right in the heart of Ohio! Can't wait to hit it up again, but I will be sure to have a couple bills in my pocket before I get there :)
Visited here during the previous summer. I ordered their weekly special, a steak, potatoes, and vegetables option. The steak was WAY overcooked and hard to cut, the potatoes appear to have been made from a box, and the green beans were from a can! I couldn't believe it! By the time our server asked us how our meal was, we just mumbled off and avoided the question so we could get out of there as fast as possible!
You must have been having a bad day. I'm there several times a month and that's only because of the friendly service. I see it all around me, it's not just me that gets that treatment but everyone. Food is always fresh and good, but not like something better than anywhere else. It is the people that make the difference. The real challange of eating here is to try and get to the bottom of your coffee cup.
We were greeted by a waitress who would have rather been someplace else other than at this place. To make things worse the food was not very good. Having been brought up in an Italian community and worked and played in Chicago, I have experienced the best of the best in Italian Charm and food. This was the second class and I find it hard to call it Italiano. 5 thumbs down.
Tried this earlier with friends... and one had just returned from 7 weeks in SE Asia, so much of the food tasted authentic to her! :) Her portion was smaller and mine larger, but food was good, place looked pretty clean, lots of folks came in to eat, as well as a large party. Great pics with menu/descriptions. Prices very reasonable! :)
