I first tried Miyabis in Greenville and thought it was good. When we moved to Columbia and searched for a sushi restaurant and tried several in Columbia, we found most of them too expensive for their "chain" sushi taste and expected the same at Miyabis and it is now our favorite and several friends go their regularly because of our recommendation. The sushi is very well prepared and sized appropriately. The avocado salad with tuna is super with a nice Nigori cold sake! But our hostess, Eni, is incredible! We knows what we get each time, she asks great questions, makes a personal touch and suggests items, prepared just how we like it! We go at least weekly if not twice or more and love it each time. It is very clean and the sushi guys greet you as you enter and thank you as you leave. All in all, being a chain japanese sushi house is a plus here. They just know how to do it right!!! I can't comment on the steak habachi. Neither of us enjoy that type of dining, but I am sure it is great.

My wife and I had dinner there about two weeks ago on a Thursday and were disappointed. This was not our first time and the service and food had been much better in the past. This night the server was very slow bringing out our salad, bread and appetizers. My wife's lobster bisque was only lukewarm, which could possibly make someone ill. The cheese biscuits were over cooked, and the salads were made with lettuce greens that were either old or had been at room temperature for hours. The entrees were of better quality but the mashed potatoes had a thick skin on them indicating that they had been cooked much earlier and had begun to dry out. We'll probably go back at least once more, but that will definitely be the last if we have another experience such as this one. We suggest that the servers be better trained in the art of time management. Also, they should inspect the items that they are serving to ensure that they are of a quality and appearance that the customer would be satisfied with. Customers would rather wait for something that is fresh and hot than be served something quickly that is below par.
