Happy Hounds Pet Grooming
Kindhearted, caring, considerate, gentle, compassionate, and thoughtful are words that come to mind immediately when I think of Barb. I have known her for many years as she worked with both of my dogs, Blarney for 14 years and now Connor for 4. If either of my dogs could talk they would say, "God....I love Barb." I started working with Barb 19 years ago when I got my first dog, Blarney. Always willing to work with your schedule, the service provided is unequaled anywhere in the Springs. Her innate kindness, her joy in animals, combined with her expert knowledge of pet care, culminate in a beautiful groomed dog who considers Happy Hounds a home. I am never anything but calm and confident when I know my dog is in such capable hands.Want your dog groomed on a Monday…not possible, as Barb spends every Monday grooming dogs as a volunteer for the National Mill Dog Rescue. When Katrina hit and there were reports of multiple animals roaming the streets, who hopped in her car and went down there? Yes. Barb. No adjectives or descriptive paragraphs can do justice to the special feeling you get when you're with her. If I could give a 10 star rating or a 100 star rating I would. But I guess I have to be happy with the 5 star. Many thanks to Barb and her crew for the BEST (and I do mean that) dog grooming business in the city.

Making Rover Over
I like the completely open format of Making Rover Over grooming shop. You can openly see each station your furry baby (dog) is at, while going through the grooming steps. There is always a smile on Kristy's face (groomer and owner). She has a patient and love for animals I have not seen in a while. She doesn't stop there. She is a sweet person and runs her business with such dedication and love. It is inspiring. It will be time for my dogs to go see Kristy at Making Rover Over in a few days. She understands that they are like my own babies and she treats them as such. Could I say more? Yes, but that would be taking away from the experience you would have gotten I look forward to watching this business grow..

JoAnn's Ruff Cuts
I have two Shih Tzu's that I groom on a daily basis. They are both in show coat. There are just some things I cannot bring myself to do (nail cutting and pulling the hair out of the ears) so I got a recommendation from my vet to try JoAnn's Ruff Cuts. I am so happy with her. She does a great job, loves the dogs and treats them well, everything is done where you can see and her salon is clean. Not fancy but clean. Besides I'm not going there for wine or coffee I just want a nice place with a great groomer to tidy up my dogs and JoAnn does it. Her prices are more than reasonable. I highly, highly recommend her you will not be disappointed.

Friendly Paws
I have been a customer of Friendly Paws Grooming for the last four years and I have never had a problem. My dog had a very bad experience at another grooom shop; the groomer was mean to my dog and cut the nails so close that they bled. After that incident, I couldn't get the dog into any shop. I tried Friendly Paws and wow, what a difference. They were very calm with my dog and was able to coax him into the tub and treated him like a little prince. Now, I have no problem taking him in; he nearly drags me into the shop. The shop personnel are friendly and helpful. I have never had a bad experience and I highly recommend it.

The Pet Pawlor
I am so grateful for the pet pawlor staff. My dog had been groomed at the "old town pet shop" for many years and thenhe became fearful of them. you will have to read the review of that shop to hear details. long story short, i brought my dog right away from the old groomer to pet pawler and he went right in and they were so kind he was not afraid. they groomed him beautifully and said he was no problem at all. they love him and he them. so they will be our new groomer. thank you pet pawler for treating my member of our family with such care and kindness.

Look Twice Pet Grooming
"Alicia has groomed our Japanese Chin boys and they were simply adorable afterwards. We are pretty picky. We want them cut short and we like our groomers to get close on the privates but not chafing she got right in there but they were still happy dogs. Here is a pic of Griffin when he got so cute by her hand. Check out the before pic. They get to looking like gremlins so there was a lot of work to do. Thanks Alicia for taking your time and getting it right!!"-Jayme Simpson

Old Town Pet Salon & Barkery
Don't know what the other person was thinking when they write that review. I take my dog here and have been for years now and highly recommend it. My cousin also takes hers there. While of course my dog is reluctant to come in, that's just normal from not liking the grooming process :) He always comes out looking beautiful, smelling nice, and in a great mood from being clean. I say to ignore the other person''s review and just try this place once!

JoAnn's Ruff Cuts
I have been taking my two poodles to JoAnn for over 4 years and she does an amazing job :) the girls love it there and are always so happy when I pick them up. I noticed the previous review about fleas and I take my girls there every 4 weeks and they have never come home with fleas and I have never heard anybody else mention it and I have quiet a few friends taking their dogs there also :) I really recommend the salon.
Tips & Advices
Some pet groomers have viewing areas where owners can sit and watch their pets being treated. Most prevent owners from being in the same room as the pet, however, as the owner's presence might cause the pet to become too excited.
Pets that cannot interact with strangers do not make good professional grooming candidates. Sometimes medication can help, but some groomers don't take animals that have been sedated. If a pet becomes too unruly, a groomer may end the session entirely.
It's best to fully vaccinate pets before bringing them to their first grooming appointment. Dogs should receive the DA2PPC vaccine, which stands for canine distemper, canine andenovirus type 2, canine parvovirus, and parainfluenza. It's also a good idea to vaccinate dogs against Bordedatella (aka “kennel cough”). In fact, New York City requires dogs receive both DAPP and Bordetella shots. Cats, meanwhile, should get the FVRCP vaccine: feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus infection, and panleukopenia. In addition, all pets should be up to date on their rabies shots. Owners should wait at least 24 hours after getting their pet vaccinated before bringing it to the groomers.
Technically, there is no such thing as a pet that is too old for a professional groomer. In fact, older pets with joint or mobility issues often can't groom themselves and need someone else to clean them. However, pets that are blind, deaf, or have serious medical issues might not do well at a groomer, especially if the person is inexperienced. Owners should feel free to ask potential groomers about their understanding of elderly pet issues. Often, older pets will exhibit puppy-like behavior and squirm or yelp during grooming. Alternatively, they might not be able to stand for long periods of time. As such, grooming an older pet usually takes more time than grooming a young one.
Puppies and kittens should be at least 10 weeks old before their first professional grooming session. They should be used to being gently handled by strangers and comfortable being separated from their owners for a few hours at a time.
