Gibson's Auto Tech
I've been taking my cars to Mr. Gibson for a few years now. He's a bit out of my way since i live near downtown; every time i think it's more convenient to get service elsewhere i always end up thinking "yeah.. I should've went to Irwin Gibson..." He used to have a shop at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Kemper Road but he had to move out of there because the rent for the lot just got too expense. (There are now gas stations at each of the other three corners, IIRC. I suppose that's the unintended result of doing good, honest work at a fair price. I've since had him service a 2008 Hyundai Sonata in his home garage a couple times where he has a car lift. I enjoyed the friendly, relaxed atmosphere even more; I wasn't so worried about "Where can i walk to around there so i have something to do while he's servicing the car...?")If you want good work done at a reasonable price you can't go wrong with Gibson Auto Tech. If he can't do the job he'll refer you as appropriate.

Ray's Automotv Services
We took our vehicles to Ray for a few years, with seemingly no problems. Then we noticed that when we took our vehicles to him, a couple of weeks later something else would happen out of the blue, requiring more repairs. This became a trend. A couple of friends we have who used him noticed the same thing. When we stopped using him, no more trend. I guess the worst thing was that he agreed to buy an old vehicle from us for a certain amount, but the moment my husband signed the title over and Ray put the title away, he said that scrap had gone down and have us $100 LESS than we had agreed upon. He wouldn't give back the title and totally ripped us off. We will never use him again. Ever.

Midas Auto Service Experts
Waaay over-priced. They did good work, but they quoted $414 over the phone and ended up charging $550 when I showed up. I called Tire Discounters to do the same job and they said it would be around $200-250 for the same brake job. I'm not complaining about their work, as that seems sound, but I will recommend that you go somewhere else if you don't want to be price-gouged. I had them recommend replacing the transmission cooler lines and they quoted me $315 for parts and labor. I just got my truck back from a local repair shop (Ryan's Automotive on North Bend Rd) who charged me $77 to replace the lines. My advice: save yourself some money and go someplace else.

Rick Schaefer's Towing
Very fast, very professional. The owner needed little information on my part and was exactly correct on his estimate of the cost and time to arrive at my location, he even suggested possible reasons why my car was inoperable. I dealt with the owner directly. He was a very skilled truck driver and backed his tow truck into a super tight spot in a full parking lot(like it was nothing, wow)This is a small business and had a much lower price compared to the other tow truck companies I had called. He was not trashy at all like you would expect a tow truck driver and was very courteous and nice. Definitely will use again if needed(I hope I wont).

Mt Carmel Truck & Auto Service
I can't say enough about how these guys helped me. I was selling my Dad's Freightliner FL60 Sportchassis after he passed away. I called these guys on a Friday just before close and explained I had a guy flying into town to buy it in Monday. They told me to bring the truck in on Monday morning, so I did. They fixed the truck and had it ready that day so I could sell it. They could have charged a premium for same day turn around, but the final bill was very very reasonable and certainly fair. Truck sold and was driven to Florida same day! Big Thank You to Mt. Carmel Truck!! They work on cars too and I highly recommend them.

Monfort Heights Auto Service
The only mechanic I go to...My entire family has been going to Monfort Heights Auto Service since Larry opened up as a Gulf gas station.Myself, my wife, my father, and two of my sisters have been taking their cars there for nearly 40 years. We've sent several friends there from time to time.He has done repairs on every car I have ever owned. We've never had a single problem there. His prices have always been reasonable. He's always been fast, and honest with all of us.My wife and I always talk about not know what we will do when Larry retires because we don't know where we'll take our cars when Larry isn't there anymore.

Five Star Auto Care
No one ever wants to go to the auto repair shop! So when I figured the heater core started leaking I was not happy about it. I took my vehicle we looked at it in the drive and he stated that yep it looks like a heater core at the tune of 1200 bucks. A day later they called me and said it wasn't the heater core someone had put window washer solvent with green dye in the reservoir. It gave the appearance of a heater core leak but was not. These guys could have charged me for a heater core and I wouldn't have known the difference. Talk about straight up honesty!

Kennedy Motor Service Inc
The only place I take my 92 Toyota Celica for repairs! The Kennedy Team (Bernie, Greg & Ila) are always there for me. With my car being older, I worry about being able to find the parts for repairs. But they work their magic and have kept my car still running great! Kennedy Motors has become the place my entire family goes when those dreaded repairs are needed. The only thing I suggest is make sure you call for an appointment because, they sure do stay busy. I guess the secret is out! Thanks Guys! I appreciate you!

Morris Automotive
Absolutely unbelievable service! My car went from dead on the side of the road to running like new in less than 24 hours thanks to Morris Automotive. Jeff provided a quick quote and recommendations and was not the slightest bit pushy. He clearly explained each problem with my car, offered solutions, and in the end was far, far less expensive than anything I would have expected. I could not be more satisfied and would recommend anyone to Jeff and his team. Thanks!

Twin Imports
As a single mother, I have been so grateful to have the Twin's taking care of my cars for 21 years! They are honest and reliable and have helped me maintain my cars for the longest life possible. I once took my car somewhere else, where they made a list of multiple items that needed fixed. When I took this list to Twin Imports, they informed me that I only needed one item fixed - they saved me hundreds of dollars! Thanks Twins!
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.

Just a moment...
