Laredo Lock Company
I needed keys changed to a door lock and needed copies made. After meeting with another locksmith and had a weird feeling to my stomach, I had walked in Laredo Lock to find out if the first locksmith was telling me the truth or if I was being scammed. I spoke to Oscar and he was so helpful. He clarified the difference between these two keys that the first locksmith said were so different, and because of the difference of the cut of the key, the first locksmith was going to charge me $9 for each copy of the key, and I'm not even going to go into what he was going to charge me for the entire job. However, I found out Laredo Lock charges $2 to make a copy of the same kind of key that the other locksmith called a "specialty" key. Oscar took the time to explain to me the difference between keys and the cost of the job with no additional hidden fees, unlike the first locksmith. I felt so comfortable and the cost to have the work done was so reasonable, I made an appt. for them to come out the same day to change the keys for the lock. I wrote the itemize cost down on a piece of paper and my info on another, however, after all the talk, I didn't realize I took both papers with me. When the time of the appt. came I met Sergio and he told me that I had took the paper with my info on it. I'm so lucky Oscar remembered the address, otherwise they would not have had any way of contacting me. Sergio was efficient and professional. I'm so pleased with everything. Wish I had gone to them first and it would have saved me the headache and time.

Advanced Locksmith Service
No one wants to be in the situation where they need to call a locksmith, especially in Chicago, IL , Advanced Locksmith Service are the guys to call. I've had a lockout and a broken lock at 2 different locations, and both times Advanced Locksmith Service was there within a half hour. The last time was a lock out, and the owner was there in like 15-20 minutes. We have a really tough lock to pick, one of those ones where you need to send the keys out to be machined.... He worked at picking this lock for 20 minutes, every which way, it's a pick proof lock. Luckily, as we were talking he opened the door and we were in! No damage to my expensive lock, no drill outs, no up charge.. I was telling him how good it is to have reliable guys like him around to do this, it's not a regular thing to have a guy with morals in the lock business. I gave him a tip, usually you feel so screwed after all of the up charging that's the last thing you're thinking about... Normally with other guys that i have used in the past they tinker around a bit and then drill out, that's cost of the drill out plus the new lock plus a hefty up charge on all the locks they provide. If you're locked out or need a change of locks, they are the best. Just getting to this review now, it's been a few months but the guy really deserves it, I'd give 5 stars. Keep up the fine service.

24/7 Lightning Locksmith Chicago
The lock on the back door of my family's home had always been finicky, and before we purchased the property a few years ago the need for a replacement even came up during the inspection. I'd even had a locksmith come take a look at it and was given an outrageous quote. Needless to say when it suddenly ceased functioning late in the evening, leaving no way to lock the door, I feared the worst.Thankfully, I called 24/7 Lightning Locksmith and had someone at my address in half an hour. The technician replaced my lock quickly and, late at night and on short notice, charged only a quarter what the previous locksmith service had quoted me. When I expressed my surprise at the low price, he explained that there are some unethical people in his field and the previous technician from the other service had probably seen that my family and I live in a nice house and tried to charge as much as possible, rather than give the sort of fair price I ended up paying.Fast, professional, and honest. Couldn't ask for more when you're in a tough situation and need help quickly.

Locksmith & Key Shop
"I just moved to a new place and I noticed that previous tenant had been coming back to get his mail. So I figured why not change the mailbox lock and also get the locks to my door re-keyed. The mailbox lock was easy to swap out by myself. But for the re-keying I needed a pro. I checked Online and the only one I found around me with reputable ratings was Locksmith & Key Store. They're based in Pittsburgh, PA. I called in the morning while waiting for cable guy (who was late as expected) and sure enough they had availability for late afternoon and gave me a fixed price for the job. Dave said he could be there around 5:30 or 6. Fine by me. I get a call from Dave at 4:30 saying he can make it even earlier. Great!!! He shows up at 4:45. The work was quick despite problems with my fancy Omnia locks. He gets the job done and I'm good to go. He even grinded the deadbolt hole to make the lock easier to turn. Great service and I'll be sure to contact them anytime for any locksmith services."

Locksmith & Lock Store
Ok, just adding to the mountain of good reviews here...The lock on the door to my apartment was busted. So I tried to save some pennies by posting an ad on Craig's list a method that has worked really well for me to hire my cleaning lady and various handymen for simple jobs.Anyway, after sorting through like 50 replies to the ad, which quoted me prices varying form $100 to $300, I chose some guy who said that he installs locks in hotels for a living for $100 who of course turned out to not know what he was doing. He did put in a good effort, staying wiht the job for like 5 hours! But the door knob was basically hanging off the door the next day after using it twice.Anyway, a week later after calling a bunch of legit locksmiths who wanted $80 to even look at the lock, and who wouldn't commit to a firm price, I called Locksmith & Lock Store who fixed the mess that was made for $80 in like a half hour. If you ever need a Locksmith in Chicago, IL 60612 Call 312-288-7671.

Parker Locksmith Store
After calling a dozen different locksmiths in Chicago, IL , I was giving up hope that I would find a place that would install a lock at a reasonable price. Enter Parker Locksmith Store. I found this place online and boy is there a reason for all those 5 star reviews. From the second I was on the phone with Tommy I had nothing but a great experience. Tommy was supremely friendly and answered all my questions with nothing but the utmost patience. Best part? He was able to come to my apartment the same day and only gave me an hour's timeframe (unlike every other company in Chicago, IL that tells you you have to wait around all day only to never show up). Tommy arrived at the top of that hour's timeframe and did the job in less than 10 minutes, even offering to sweep up after the job was done. He was very professional and so nice that I have no doubt I'll only call Parker Locksmith Store if I ever need help with a lockout or any other lock related problem!

Tips & Advices
Locksmiths-in-training can receive foundational knowledge and skills through programs offered at technical colleges or vocational schools. These would include basic courses on lock mechanics and manipulation, along with general skills like business management. From there, most trainees seek an apprenticeship, where they work alongside a professional locksmith. This allows them to gain experience in the field. It can also put them on a course toward certification.
Upon arrival to your home, a locksmith should ask you to prove that it is in fact your residence. They should also be able to unlock most common locks without requiring them to be drilled or completely replaced. Be sure to obtain an invoice that lists all charges before agreeing to pay.
  • If possible, research local locksmiths online and take note of any that have poor reviews or complaints.
  • When calling a locksmith, confirm their address matches what you found online or in a directory. Then ask for a cost estimate for the service you need, and ask to have them bring a written copy of this estimate.
  • Some states require locksmiths to be licensed. If your state is one of them, require the locksmith to bring proof of registration when they arrive.
The term locksmith traditionally referred to people who designed and built locks, but today is generally used for those who repair and replace locks. Locksmiths can be available on-call to help people if they're locked out of their home or apartment.
  • First, determine the type of lock you have, as well as the manufacturer or model if possible. You should also obtain measurements of your door and frame.
  • Remove exterior and interior knobs by unscrewing any visible screws you find. Many knobs will include a decorative cover on the interior side that can be removed.
  • Once you've removed the entire lock, find the screws on the inside of the door frame to remove the latch or deadbolt.
  • With everything removed, repeat these steps in reverse order to install the new lock.

Just a moment...
