I hail from the Isles of the South Seas and had my 1st taste of jerk chicken/turkey/ribs at JAMAICAN ME HUNGRY on my very 1st visit to Chicago just in December. What an WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! Simply amazing and delicious!!! The meats were soft and soo full of flavor!! I was in town for work, and had rented a nearby place nearby for a period of 1 week. Unfamiliar with the area and swamped with work, I decided to order out; the decision really came down to Pizza or Chinese for delivery options, and found this place really close by with delivery. I don’t exactly recall what sides I ordered by I remember ordering the Spicy Basil Beef. For delivery, it was fresher than I expected and it was very well priced for what you got. The delivery guy was super nice and super quick. What I remember most about the night was working diligently on this report for the client and just smelling the aroma of the basil even after I had finished the meal. I ended up ordering out from the same place again the next day for lunch—was not disappointed. I rarely order twice from the same place on business travel (heck, you got an expense account why not explore right?), but this is one of those off cases.
My dining partner and I have enjoyed years of great food and drink in Chicago and Los Angeles, and our overall impression of Revival was simply this: "we had to find a bad one sooner or later!"- there were other seats, but they seated us directly under a large, unfiltered skylight at 1pm -- lots of squinting!- the room was a cacophony of sound; all right angles and hard surfaces, so everyone was raising their voices to be heard.- we left much of our meal unconsumed: an over-salted bloody mary, an "odd, sort of tex-mex" eggs benedict, chips that tasted heavy and bland, and nutella pancakes that had no flavor beyond the nutella itself.- we were surrounded by waitstaff chatting with each other and friends at tables, and couldn't get a check without resorting to unsubtle methods. In short, you can do better.
Just finished our super delicious meal! Had the tomahawk rib eye with augratin potatoes and organc spinach salad with key lime pie for desert all of which were super delicious. Our waiter, the ex scuba diver , did an outstading job. Table service top notch with clean forks and knives with each course. Table swept clean, and if you leave your table during your meal, you will return to a folded napkin. Hostess kindly explained the local history of the building and neighborhood. I had to look hard to find fault, but being from old school service, I prefer my water and or drink glass to be removed from the table for refilling rather than reach across with a pitcher but that's just me. Enjoyed our first visit here and would definitely recommend.
