This place is simialr to every small salon experience you may have had in the past: slightly small, cheap decorations, old magazines, etc but the peolpe that work here are truly talented. I am Black and searched all over Chicago for an afforable cut. Where I lived in Philly I could walk into a salon and get my ends trimed from 10 dollars, a blow-dry and curl for 25, etc. But salons in Chicago quated me twice that price for the same service. I decided to a chance going further south where I hoped the texture of my hair would be the norm and the services priced accordingly, and that is just what I found. Veronica washed, cut, and flat ironed my hair for 40 dollars and my layers are flawless, my hair sliky, and my wallet uninjured. If you don't mind the travel time and a bit of non-elequent ambiance then go!

A very unique experience. It was great because I got all of the stylist's attention and she took the time to help me figure out exactly what I wanted. She works by appointment only and I love that when I need to book something I can just send an email or text because its always hard to remember to call during business hours. I do have to remember to book in advance because she gets very busy.
3.Rev Billys Chop Shop
4314 N Lincoln Ave
I am that picky girl..the type that knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to go back if it's not right..on the other hand I am the first person to compliment a job 'well done'..that's why I need to mention Queenie. I have to admit when I walked into Big Hair that I was a little intimidated by the atmosphere..I normally tend to lean towards a salon environment, but TIME CONSTRAINTS and FUNDS the other weekend forced me to grasp at straws and go completely out of the box on a referral from a friend...I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!! Queenie was awesome-she listened to exactly what I wanted and did it perfectly-keeping me entertained the whole time!! I felt like I knew her forever and didn't feel uncomfortable expressing how I wanted the color to look..The cut is great and my color looks so natural-I have gotten so many compliments and I still can't believe how inexpensive everything was..Big Hair has def got a return customer!

I loved going to Salon Buzz for an hour of magic called Martine. Martine's spa pedicures are healing for body and soul. I recently found Martine has moved to Studio 110, also on Delaware. I am now continuing the magic with Martine there.

Never ever had a bad experience there. Suggestion: if there is a line just put your name on the board and walk around for a while - it's a charming area and plenty of shopping!

These guys do it right. The place is set up with a lot of old school memorabilia and a nod to barbershops back in the day. I have been going here since they opened and would say that the staff and owner are skillful, quick, pleasant very accommodating and laid back. There is a nice waiting area to read a magazine, play pool, or even have a PBR (complimentary - in the fridge). Obviously if you make an appointment (one of the few spots that does accept them), don't be late. There is no drama, so check it out.
7.Haircuts & Shaves !!! (Call Rashaad For Appointment)

The only barber I would allow to cut my hair in Chicago.
8.Gabby's Barber Shop
2860 N Clark St
All Flat-topers should take note of this superb old fashioned barbershop.\r RJ (or AJ ?) is the name of a perfectionist barber in this shop in cutting flattops, as well as my horseshoe flat, the best cut I have ever experienced.\r He takes the time with careful considerations, does not talk while concentrating, has a lovely dog\r watching his fine work progress.\r \r Thanks RJ/AJ !!!
9.Father & Son Barber Shop
5806 N Broadway St Ste 4
When I moved to Chicago I found these guys and have been going ever since. I moved quite a distance from the barber shop and tried someone else. I decided that I would rather drive for 30 minutes to get an excellent haircut than stay close to home and look like I lost a fight with a lawn mower.\r \r Definitely go, you can't get a bad haircut here no matter what chair you sit in.
10.Philip D'ciminna Barber Shop

Kim is great. I have been going to this barber shop for all my haircuts since I started working downtown Chicago in 1996. Since Peter retired last year, I have only used Kim. I always call for an appointment first, so I do not need to wait in line. 111E Wacker, Chicago, 312.644.1441 Inside Illinois Center, a little hidden in one of the back hallways, the hallway next to a Citibank branch, and near a shoe repair shop. Simply put, the 316 Club is great. The people there just simply get it. The service is tight, atmosphere was perfect and I had a great experience from start to finish. My girlfriend bought me a gift card there for Christmas and now I'm hooked. I don't play pool however I like knowing the pool table is there for me to use. My haircut was top notch. The massaging shampoo, hand massage, and shoe shine were a great touch and the beer was ice cold! I probably will go the route of the $585 annual membership since it comes out to roughly $1.60 per day (less than a cup of Jo), and it covers unlimited haircuts for a whole year. All I can say is, Nice Job 316 Club, finally somebody gets it!
14.Michael Anthony Hair Salon
1001 W North Ave Ste 1
John Lorek Master Colorist is exactly that. I arrived for the first time today. He is the only colorist that I have ever been to that I have shown a picture to of exactly what I wanted and he got it spot on right the first time. I was told he has been there for years and I can see why. I am thrilled with my hair. I also had my curly hair blown out straight by stylist Morgan. She did an amazing job giving just enough bounce with the blow out, exactly as I had asked for. I look forward to returning to Morgan for a an ends trim, since Morgan shared with me that she has naturally curly hair like I do, and her straight hair today looked impeccable. In addition she shared with me the Keratin treatment that will help me manage my curly mane. I give both John Lorec and Morgan five stars. I am also grateful for the last minute booking after M Salon on Oak street called to say Dariella, Colorist had to cancel. This was a blessing in disguise. The cancellation at M Salon was a blessing. Because that is, where I had a night mare hair color experience with Dariella and had to return to get it fixed. I was going to return to her today thinking Dariella might finally have gotten my color right Luckily as coincidence and synchronicity would have it, I met John Lorek, today at Michael Anthony Salon on North Avenue and Sheffield as well as Morgan. They are a dream come true. They get it right the first time. Five stars all the way.-Celine Adduci
15.Mario's Place Barber Shop
2347 N Southport Ave
Mario's is like Cheers, eventually, ""everybody knows your name"". It is a great place to get a quality haircut or shave, relax and enjoy the eclectic and very diverse crowd. In the current world of impersonal service and artificial sincerity, Mario's is the place for great value and even better values. If only he was a Cub fan!!!

Got a gift certificate for Christmas for a massage. I've never had one so I was a little hesitant. When I called to make the appointment, I spoke to Jackie who made me feel at little more at ease. The day of my massage, she offered me hot tea, and explained to me what was going to take place, and asked me if i had any questions. She has strong hands, and 10 minutes in the massage I was drooling...LOL! My experience was pleasant and I strongly recommend this spa.

21.Alfredo's Barber Shop
4 W Chicago Ave
I started going to Alfredo's when I moved to Chicago in 2001. It was right around the corner from my office. Now my office is in the Loop, but I still go back to Alfredo's because I trust them. It's not fancy, no tile or brass, but it's practical and quick. You can call ahead and make an appointment, or stop in and wait. The longest I ever had to wait without an appoiintment was about 20 minutes.
4307 S Archer Ave
The place is one of a kind. Great service once you enter. Next time I am on tour I will stop by to get a london Mohawk!!!!
1141 S Pulaski Rd
You may have to wait a loooonnnng minute but its worth it. My son has been going there with his Dad since his first hair cut and everytime his lining is always flawless and his cut is precise. The price is extremely resonable. It has a christian environment and family friendly. The space is tight but its a happy bunch.

26.Joe's Barbershop Chicago
2641 W Fullerton Ave
Joe's is more than just a traditional neighborhood barbershop - it is a place a guy can go, be a guy, and get a decent haircut at a very reasonable price. They do great rockin vintage Greaser cuts, Business cuts, Mohawks, Faux hawkes, Buzzcuts and anything you want - they cut your hair the way you want it. These are real barbers, not hair salon beauticians. They do hot lather shaves too. \r \r They do not take appts - walk-ins only. The decor of the place is a bit minimal, but I don't go their to take in the ambience - I go there cause I know I will get a great haircut. There aren't many places in Chicago area I know of that can cut an authentic pomp, or does straight razor face shaves like Joe's/ If you're a Rockin Greaser, get here. If you're a businessman, get here. If you need a great haircut, get here. \r \r You can either lower your manhood by going to one of those mamby pamby cookie cutter salons and have Mable put you under the dryer Honey, or you can Man-up and get to Joe's for a real man's haircut at a real barbershop. \r \r They also carry world famous Hawleywood's producst like Layrite Pomade. Get some for your hair.
