I had to get shots for both of my dogs. one a full bred Boxer.. the other was adopted So Lab Mixed (We always wanted to know with what ?? ) So K9 University Staff (Which i frequent) referred me to this place because she used to work here and she knows my dogs.. Well I can honestly say that I was IMPRESSED !!! The place is Nice. Clean.. Doesn't smell.. the Staff ... Very impressed. K9 University staff told the vet that I was bringing my pooches here. When we got there it was like the entire staff were waiting on us. I was told through K9 that my visit would be about $150 for both pooches but you know.. when i got there.. My dogs hadn't had shots (other than rabis) in 2 yrs for one dog.. the other dog 1 yr (We adopoted her) ... The Low Down..ALL of their shots! including the ones that I've never EVER heard of ..Plus Fecal Check .. 1 Year of heartgaurd for 2 dogs..$200 per dog.. Thats a Deal.. they even got blood samples for another test.. the Fecal Test.. ALL Shots.. Plus 1 yr of Heartgaurd.. we were there all but 30 min for 2 dogs (The place was empty)ohh and another thing. We were curious about what our Lab was mixed with.. OMG It's Lab and "CHOW" umm we're not a Chow person.. Riley is super cute with her Golden Ears (Google Lab/chow mix) ... but hey.. At least the lab Curbs the BAD AZZ of the Chow!take your pooches here!! He's not a Negotiator really but if he see's your head spinning because of the cost.. he will certainly work with you :)

Ravenswood Animal Hospital
I think Dr. Cindy Olsen is the most talented small animal veterinarian in Chicago. She also is trained in acupuncture & chiropractic to treat dogs, cats, and visits barns around Chicagoland to treat horses. She opened her own practice in 2014, Ravenswood Animal Hospital. I'm impressed!! The facility has all brand new equipment, insightful construction, and an incredibly talented hospital staff. It gets hard to park in the city, but her clinic has a parking lot and is across from Horner Park. A little bit about me, I love cats, I love everything about cats except wet food & litter box smells. Dogs are really cool too; but for me, cats are where its at. We have two orange cats in our house and Dr Olsen has been their veterinarian since 2006. Her advice and feedback to get an additional litterbox has helped ease the occasional 'disagreements' between the cats. Our cats get regular exams and have been consistently healthy over the years. In the few times that they have gotten sick, Dr. Olsen has been quick to treat them, extremely empathetic during the healing process, and extremely thorough during all of our re-checks to make sure our little orange friends got back to 100% health. Our cats are the snuggliest!I highly recommend Ravenswood Animal Hospital and Dr. Olsen.

Drs. Ferraro and Post are some of the most competent Drs., that can ever come together to open an office. Let alone from the guidance of the great father and vet himself Dr. Ferraro who I met in 1985 and he told me 1 thing, "Be patient, they love you no matter what". He was great and Dr. Susan learned from the best! I do not hesitate to tell anyone to bring their pets to LPD&CC. When I lost my beloved Reggie, they treated him and me like family and I thank them every day. If you have a question, call they will answer. Thank you very much!

Brandy is AMAZING! My dog has anxiety...extreme anxiety. But Brandy takes her time with my boys and treats them like people. I've tried several groomers and no one compares. She priced way below what she's worth! One Brandy was unavailable at the time I needed the boys groomed so I took them to a place in West Loop close by our home. They had cute haircuts, but my dog with anxiety had been cut and the cut got infected. I HAVE NEVER HAD THAT ISSUE WITH BRANDY. The boys are always happy to see her, and they come home looking better than when they left.

I have been taking my beagle Buckley here for the past 3 years. THEY ARE AWESOME! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Ferraro and Dr. Post. They LOVE animals and what they do, and it shows. Buckley ate an entire bar of dark chocolate one night making an unexpected visit to the doggie ER. Frank called the next day to check on the little guy. What a team. They really explain everything to provide the best care. I appreciate them so much and will never go anywhere else (I recently moved and drive 45 minutes into the city just to see them)!

Had to bring Boss our 1yr old pit bull terrier mix in for a deep cut too his paw.Boss was a rescue animal, we are a family of four with one (low) income. This was an expense we had not budgeted for but Dr. Bhaskar worked with us and gave us different options, the best option, anesthesia, sutures, and antibiotics. We have no doubt that Boss will recover fully and that we will return for any other veterinarian needs. Thank you Dr. Bhaskar and staff for helping our much-loved four legged friend. God bless you all and the work that you do

I cite the following example of care: another vet clinic performed a "minor surgery" on our first Boxer who just happened to be a "show" dog. Our boy "Myles" suffered tremendously and was dying because the infection spread to his liver. We brought the boy to Dr. Sue and her Dad and they went out of their way to bring him to specialists; because 1) he was only 4 years old and 2) they realized how much he was loved. THE DOCTORS at this clinic brought him - we were not referred to as other clinics have a history of doing.

Furtastik
The place is great. So far I utilized their daycare and boarding services.I like the fact that they limit their daycare dogs to 20,dogs are separated by size and they have lots of specials like discounted Friday baths if you are enrolled in daycare.I am on my week 6 and my dog is free of bites happy and exhausted when he comes home.Prices are very reasonable, especially for this area.I like having that piece of mind when I go out of town and I have to leave my buddy behind. And thats exactly what I get at Furtastik!

Dogs Only Grooming Salon
I like them because they were local. The owner had a great personality and she was knowledgable about dogs in general and the grooming process. My dog Honey was very comfortable going to the groomer before and after her grooming and she has not always been receptive to groomers before and after her groomings. This was the best she's been groomed. Honey is 3 years old and she has been groomed every month since she was about 10 months. This experience earned "For Dogs Only Grooming Salon" a five star.

I have been taking my dogs and cats to this veterinary clinic for over 20 years, and they have always provided the best care possible for my animals. When my 11 year-old golden retrievers were diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma, they referred me to an excellent veterinary oncology surgeon who successfully took care of the problem. And two years later, when my golden was diagnosed with lymphoma, they found another oncologist who specialized in this disorder who put her into remission for over two years.
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
