Charleston Electric
We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. 3 days before the cabinets are to go in, I find many issues with the electrical in the kitchen and my wife decides to move the location of several key appliances.William answered his phone the first time I called and told me he could come out between 4-5 to take a look. He arrived promptly at 4 and we discussed options. He was very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and had a lot of great ideas. His professionalism even led us to inquire about and add recessed lighting. He was able to get me a quote at a reasonable price within a couple of hours of meeting. The next morning William and his helper came out promptly as they said they would. They brought all materials and worked efficiently to get our wiring issues solved. They terminated several hot lines that were never in use, ran new 220 volt wire through the crawlspace, rewired several light switches, moved several electrical outlets, and installed 4 recessed lights all before 5pm. He even went above and beyond and patched and mudded the drywall in the places that needed it.I hung around to learn most of the day, and due to William's professionalism, organized work processes, and integrity to always do things the right way, I will be calling him first for any electrical work we might ever need, and highly recommend you do as well!

I called 2 other 'local' electricians today. I explained the situations with the power and how my AC was not getting any power...meaning I had NO AC. This is SC in August. I even told them both that I have small animals in the home. The first offered to send someone out tonight because they're booked thru next week.(it was 3:00PM) if it was a 'real' emergency however, it would be at the overtime rate...I asked her what she didn't understand about what I said and said "No thank you, I'll check your competitors." The second offered the same thing since they were booked through tomorrow. THEN I called Charleston Electric.William answered the phone asked what the situation was; I explained. He said "No problem, call you when we're on the way....and I'm not charging you overtime." Within anhour William and Robert knocked on the door. They took the time, diagnosed the problem and when though they could only offer a temporary solution with a permanent solution tomorrow... they fixed my problem. Both William and Robert conducted themselves in such a way that it makes me glad to be living in the South... the others...wellllll....not so much. Thank you William and Robert and thank you Charleston Electric.

We had an outlet actually sparking when we tried to plug the TV in....scary. We found Charleston Electric through the online Yellow Pages and wholeheartedly agree with the other two reviewers. These gentlemen arrived on time the same day we called, identified the problem immediately and had us up and running again in no time. We also felt their fee was very reasonable. We will definitely call them again with any other electrical issues.

Mister Sparky
Can't say enough good things about Mr Sparky. I needed power run to my hot tub on my back patio and some dimmer switches installed. I called on a Friday and they sent out a technician (James). James performed the work requested in a professional and timely manner. The installation looks great and performs perfectly. Kudos to James and Mr Sparky ... and by the way, I was able to enjoy the hot tub that night.

William came to my house as soon as I called him and had a very quick fix for my problem. I was so impressed by his thorough attention; he even pointed out a problem with my smoke detectors that will save me a great deal of future headache. I would definitely recommend this company for any electrical problem!

Tips & Advices
Keep the following tips in mind:
  • Do not operate any electrical equipment while sitting or standing in water.
  • Don't overload extension cords or surge protectors.
  • Put caps on your electrical outlets if you have small children.
  • Call an electrician if you notice your sockets or switches are warm to the touch, discolored or if they make noise.
  • Keep electrical cords away from stoves, ovens and other sources of heat.
  • Do not use an appliance that has a frayed cord.
  • Do not staple extension cords into place or cover them with carpets or furniture.
  • When using extension cords, make sure to unwrap them before plugging them in.
  • Don't overuse extension cords. Have an electrician install extra outlets if you need a power source closer to you.
  • Only use light bulbs with the correct wattage for your lamps and light fixtures.
  • Contact a licensed electrician if you frequently blow fuses, since this can be a sign of an electrical wiring problem.
  • Have an electrician look at your fuse box to ensure you have the right size fuses and circuit breakers. The wrong size fuse or breaker can be a fire hazard.
  • If you have fault circuit interrupters installed in your electrical panel, make sure you test them at least once a month by turning them on and off.
It can cost from $40-$100 an hour depending on the job. This does not include additional costs for parts or trip fees. Make sure to ask in advance what they charge for or if they will provide a free quote.
In order to become a full-fledged professional, a person must undergo an apprenticeship with master and journeyman electricians. An apprentice needs 8,000 hours of practical work before graduating to the journeyman level. If an apprentice reaches journeyman status, he or she can complete most electrical work, but cannot design it until completing more testing along with 2,000 more on-the-job hours.
Yes. While all electricians need a license, not all of them do the same types of jobs.
  • Outside: These types of electricians work outdoors on electrical lines that connect to power plants.
  • Inside: Inside experts typically focus on commercial and industrial buildings that require a lot of power.
  • Residential: Residential electricians work with low-voltage systems and wiring to install fuse boxes and light fixtures.
Watch out for contractors that greatly underbid other electricians. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Also, always remember to get the estimate in writing before settling on a company.
