Alex is the most controlling yoga instructor I’ve encountered. I modified a position to stretch my body further and he came over and said, “when you’re in MY class you follow MY instructions and I did not say you could be in that pose.” What?!! I asked, are you serious?!! He said yes I’m serious, now do what I say. Not wanting to disturb others I did. I wish I’d gotten up and walked out right then. Having taken 8 or so classes with him during the 30 days for $30, I followed his direction 99% of the class and this was the only thing I changed. When I confronted him after class that his interaction with me was unprofessional and inappropriate, he basically said I don’t care and even walked away rather than respectfully end the conversation. Despite that fact that it’s advertised as an “all levels class” his defense was that beginners may get confused if I deviate at all. He said if you want to do YOUR practice, don’t take MY class; just stay home! Alex is looking for obedient students, so leave any creativity at home. Ironically the other teacher Alma praised me for that very modification saying I had “a beautiful practice.” Alex however owns the studio and teaches majority of the classes. I’ve never encountered Alex’s level of ego and controlling behavior in a yoga teacher. Taking my business elsewhere.
