Auto Lab’s Response: (Boo M. 01/06/2015)As a business owner I am disappointed that someone would not first call our establishment and inform us of their dissatisfaction. We understand that in most cases auto repair is an unexpected expense and we are concerned about how our customers feel after spending money at our location for services. Regarding the complaint posted by Elizabeth J., we did properly repair the vehicle and both items replaced were in fact needed. The customer authorized all work performed. The customer stated that she thought she needed a new alternator when she brought the vehicle in for service. We are not in the business of replacing what the customer thinks may be the problem. We are in the business of diagnosing the problem and then repairing the vehicle once it has been assessed, with the customer’s input and approval. That is what happened here. A new alternator would not have solved the customer’s problem. After diagnosing the issue, the customer was informed of this. The customer ultimately had two problems: One problem was her instrument cluster, which had an open circuit. As a result, the instrument cluster would not allow the alternator to charge properly. We could not condemn the alternator without addressing the instrument cluster problem first. After replacing the instrument cluster, (the alternator was still an unknown), we did find a bad diode in her alternator ultimately leading to complete alternator replacement. It is possible that a bad diode in the alternator had spiked the circuit and damaged the instrument cluster. The customer approved the diagnostic approach taken and all work performed.After submitting the negative review, our company has called this customer several times, in an effort to address her concerns and help her better understand the process of her vehicle repair. None of our telephone calls have been returned. No other direct contact has been received from the customer.We stand behind our service and believe that this customer (and her vehicle) was serviced properly, appropriately and honestly.

Love Affordable Automotive! They could have repaired my car and gladly billed me for the service but they told me that the manufacturer of my car had a silent recall going on and recommended that I take it to the dealer instead. Such honesty in auto repairs is rare and I took my other vehicles there for service afterward. I would highly recommend Affordable to anybody.

Maybe they've changed? I went to have some work done on my car (before reading any reviews) and I found the experience to be very good. When there was a problem and I told them about it, they stood behind their work and resolved the issue to my complete satisfaction. I found them to be professional and credible. I will go back there again.

I had a blowout while on the way to work in my 2008 Milan. The service manager at the front counter was able quote me a tire on the spot and recommend a tire that was better suited to my driving at less of a price than the original tire that was on the vehicle. Very helpful and would recommend to anyone!

I highly recommend Sheldon Rd Auto. The mechanics are honest and knowledgeable, and repairs are reasonably priced. Bob, the owner, is a great guy..very respectful and kind. Having over 400,000 miles on my car makes it very important to me to have mechanics I can trust. These guys are the best!

This is the only place to get your vehcile worked on, Joe and his staff treat yoy vehcile as if it was one one theirs. I drive about20 miles to go there and would drive 20 more if I had too. They should get a 10 star rating.There are no worries going here.

Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair.
