Dr. Fig and his office staff are the absolute best! Just 2 days ago we had to take our 12 year old boy in for a letter for Animal Control as he was very ill and putting him to sleep was the only alternative. We didn't have much money due to a recent move, so we had no other choice but to take him to Animal Control. Dr. Fig examined our Max and gave us the letter. I had called Animal Control and was told to bring him in any day between 9:30 and 4:30. This was a Monday, July 29th and when we got there, they were closed. As our Max lay in the back seat of my car, dying, I called Dr. Fig's office back and he agreed to euthanize him for us for less money. We had no choice. My Max was ready to go and was a very sick boy. Dr. Fig was so compassionate, understanding how my husband and I both felt and he even took the time to make sure that Max was put into a twilight sleep before the injection. When he finally passed, Dr. Fig took several minutes to speak with both of us, and explained how we did the right thing for Max. He took the time out of his busy schedule to explain everything to us, telling us that we did not wait until it was to late, nor did we do it to early. Max was ready and the time was right...then. He is a wonderful vet and a wonderful person. There was a tear in his eye also as he said goodbye, as well as all of his staff. I know it cannot always be a pleasant environment to work in, but his staff is the best around. They are also very compassionate and understanding and it shows in the way they treat each and every patient. Thank you Dr. Fig...you were our angel that day, just as Max is our angel now. :)

Brooksville Veterinary Clinic
I love Brooksville Veterinary Clinic! My poor dog Bette was miserable due to a flea allergy, and the sweet caring Dr and staff fixed her up immediately. The cheerful compassionate people, the bright, clean waiting room and short wait time were just great, but the care my Bette got, along with the Dr and staff patiently explaining things to me, and answering my many questions, made it a great experience for us, not to mention the affordable prices. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Dr. Figurella is great. His staff? Well, the receptionist is not a very nice person. But I love Dr. Figurella, and tolerate the receptionist. My four legged family members receive top notch care from the good vet. But don't call and expect to get to talk to him about anything. His receptionist won't let that happen for any reason. Honestly, she should be fired. That is not only my opinion, but the opinion of the volunteers who help out there.

Animal Medical Center of Brooksville
Have always found Dr. Taylor and her staff to be straight forward and honest. We have been bringing our miniature and toy poodles to her for years. If there is an issue we just say something to her because she communicates and does what she can to meet our needs. We trust her and we trust the staff.

Excellent, talented, caring, flexible and timely. My puppy was saved by these knowledgeable medical practitioners. Her leg was broken in two places and now there is no trace of the accident. I would recommend to anyone with a pet, and do!

Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
