Walton Ave Electric
Walton Ave Electric fitted and decorated our new kitchen with fancy and normal light connection to a very high standard and we are very pleased with their work. We will definitely be using them again if we need more work done. Nothing was too much trouble and they would quite often say they wanted us to be happy and just to let them know if there were any problems. When there were a couple of things we wanted changed or amended, they were great and made us feel very comfortable and confident to have an open and trusting relationship with them. Thank you and we love our new kitchen.

Electrical Power Gomez
I highly recommend Electrical Power Gomez. He was professional, dedicated and provided great customer service. We had an old air-con unit that needed replacement. He arrived on time for both the quote (which was very reasonable) and installation, was proactive in confirming our installation date and explained everything we needed to know. The job itself took an extra day of work because of a difficult wall cavity, not only did he stick by his quote but made sure the job was done right. I am very happy I hired this organisation for the install.

Alan's Electrical
Alan's Electrical has done all the wiring for our kitchen which went in earlier this year, and involved a new switchboard. I have just had him back to do the wiring for our new bedroom which we are renovating. He has tonnes of experience and really knows what he is doing, without having to look up manuals or talk to supervisors etc like some of the electricians I have had quotes from in the past. Thanks for all the great work you have done for us thus far :)

Dreiser Loop Electrical
Dreiser Loop Electrical got in touch quickly after I posted my job and attended as agreed to see what was needing done. They offered a very competitive price for the work and was able to start the job quickly. The work was completed to a very high standard and I am delighted with the work that they carried out. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to family, friends and colleagues and in fact a friend is going to ask them for some elctrical work.

Gavin Porter Electric
I originally wanted to have spotlights throughout the flat. Gavin Porter Electric came over to quote and he was very realistic in what we could achieve. Sadly the flat has solid concrete ceilings and we opted for nicer light fittings instead. The only small problem we had; one of the light fittings was a little loose. He didn't hesitate to come back and see what the issue was, he even did an alternative job at no further expense!

Walton Ave Electric
I highly recommend Walton Ave Electric. He was really professional and friendly and actually listened to what I wanted and offered useful suggestions (which is not my experience of all tradesmen I've received quotes from). He gave spoken and written quotes promptly, was easy to deal with, arrived when he said he would and completed the work of installing bathroom exhaust fan to a high standard. I'd definitely use him again.

Tips & Advices
Keep the following tips in mind:
  • Do not operate any electrical equipment while sitting or standing in water.
  • Don't overload extension cords or surge protectors.
  • Put caps on your electrical outlets if you have small children.
  • Call an electrician if you notice your sockets or switches are warm to the touch, discolored or if they make noise.
  • Keep electrical cords away from stoves, ovens and other sources of heat.
  • Do not use an appliance that has a frayed cord.
  • Do not staple extension cords into place or cover them with carpets or furniture.
  • When using extension cords, make sure to unwrap them before plugging them in.
  • Don't overuse extension cords. Have an electrician install extra outlets if you need a power source closer to you.
  • Only use light bulbs with the correct wattage for your lamps and light fixtures.
  • Contact a licensed electrician if you frequently blow fuses, since this can be a sign of an electrical wiring problem.
  • Have an electrician look at your fuse box to ensure you have the right size fuses and circuit breakers. The wrong size fuse or breaker can be a fire hazard.
  • If you have fault circuit interrupters installed in your electrical panel, make sure you test them at least once a month by turning them on and off.
It can cost from $40-$100 an hour depending on the job. This does not include additional costs for parts or trip fees. Make sure to ask in advance what they charge for or if they will provide a free quote.
In order to become a full-fledged professional, a person must undergo an apprenticeship with master and journeyman electricians. An apprentice needs 8,000 hours of practical work before graduating to the journeyman level. If an apprentice reaches journeyman status, he or she can complete most electrical work, but cannot design it until completing more testing along with 2,000 more on-the-job hours.
Yes. While all electricians need a license, not all of them do the same types of jobs.
  • Outside: These types of electricians work outdoors on electrical lines that connect to power plants.
  • Inside: Inside experts typically focus on commercial and industrial buildings that require a lot of power.
  • Residential: Residential electricians work with low-voltage systems and wiring to install fuse boxes and light fixtures.
Watch out for contractors that greatly underbid other electricians. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Also, always remember to get the estimate in writing before settling on a company.
