We recently had to put our family pet to sleep. I was so touched by the kindness and compassion Dr. DeMarco and the staff members showed us, I was compelled to leave a review even though I rarely do. Everything was explained to us before we made any decisions, and they were upfront about costs and procedures. Those things are difficult to think about when you're grieving the possible loss of a pet, but Dr. DeMarco presented the information with sensitivity. I appreciated the extra effort that was made to explain the procedures so we knew what to expect. The compassion and sensitivity that was shown to our family was unexpected but very much appreciated.

These people are so nice and professional. I had to go there for the first time today with my very sick older dog. The ladies at the front desk are very helpful and the vet really took his time to explain everything to me and costs before he did it. I did not feel rushed at all and even though I didn't have an appointment and was a first time client, wait time was very minimal. We are new in town and I can't tell you what a relief it is to know that there is such a kind and competent vet office nearby. Will definitely be going back.

Marlene listens to what you are saying. She treats your babies like they are her own. I brought 2 of my 4 dogs in for the first time and they came out looking beautiful. Since one of them had been traumatized at a prior groomers Marlene was gentle, yet firm talking her through her grooming. My other 2 dogs will soon be seeing Marlene. Thank you for a wonderful job. Just thought I would tell you the other dogs kept smelling the groomed ones and whining. Funny. Thanks. Kathy

Blue Springs Animal Hospital and Pet Resort is an amazing place to take your animals. The staff is very knowledgeable, kind, and patient. We live in Brookside and drive out here every morning because there is nothing like their puppy daycare in Kansas City. The hospital is accredited, clean and very up to date on the latest practices. I feel very safe leaving my pet in their care and recommending Blues Springs Animal Hospital and Pet Resort to every pet owner I meet.

Marlene goes above and beyond to insure your dog feels comfortable and secure. She does an amazing job! We've had our dog groomed for 7 years, and this by far, was the best job ever! She fit the cut to the personality of our dog! Can't recommend enough!

Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
