Midas Auto Service Experts
The manager at the Midas Homewood location contacted me on February 27th, 2015 and I explained my experience with the Hoover location (left a review on them). He didn't like the fact that that and theft had happened in one of his stores. He offered to have my vehicle inspected for my peace of mind. I came by and had my vehicle inspected on February 28, 2015. He looked under the hood, since Midas Hoover also replaced my radiator, and he checked the outer tie rod end. He found what would soon be the same situation before with the suspension (where I'd have to find a shop and shell out even more money) and replaced the parts and aligned my vehicle, all as a courtesy. I'm truly appreciative for that. The Midas Homewood manager, Dwight, refunded me for the outer tie rod end job Midas Hoover did. For their service and right-ing what could and would have been another wrongdoing, Midas Homewood gets my mark of approval.UPDATE: These guys have taken care of my car and been great to work with. I came back to Midas Homewood after getting an oil change and tire rotation from the dealership, that resulted in a Check Engine Light. Midas took care of my CEL problem (a simple fix that would've been an unnecessary repair) without charging me a penny in good consciousness. I recently got a tuneup and brought it back when my CEL came on. They kept it for a couple of days to check it out and drained and recharged the battery and reset the codes, as a courtesy. They changed out my sparkplug wires and informed me about the exhaust system. They took care of my car and I've appreciated what they've done. They've saved me money and did honest repair work on my CRV. Customer service is great and it's clear they take pride in their business and making the customer top priority. As far as I've known and going off their track record, these mechanics have been honest with me and they know how I am about my baby. So I highly recommend them.

Duffy's Garage Land Rover, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, & Mini Cooper
The good: Duffy's was very affordable. They are really nice people. Was given a quote on the phone and the price was the same when i picked it up except for they didn't include tax. So it was about 100.00 lacking. Still was cheaper than taking it to the dealer. Also they didn't charge me for an alignment b/c they forgot to add it in to the initial quote which was nice. The bad: Very poor communication. Dropped off Tuesday. I was told my car would be done Wednesday and it was done Friday. I called twice and both times was told i would be called back with an ETA. I didn't hear from them for a couple of days until I called. When I picked up my car my spare tire winch was broken and thrown in the back of the car and i was told i could buy the replacement part when it came in. No thanks. It wasn't broken when i dropped it off. Also was told i would be called early in the week when the replacement part came in. Here it is two weeks later and no call on the part. I already fixed it myself, so don't worry about it. They seem like nice people. Brad seems like he knows what he's doing but Duffy's should really keep in touch with their customers better. I was without a car for three days guessing when it would be done. Would have been nice if they called me to tell me it was going to be delayed and that the winch was broken. Jay Salillas

Sherrill Paint & Body Co.
In a day and age when mediocrity is the norm for businesses, it's refreshing to encounter an operation that's dedicated to quality work and complete customer satisfaction. Such is the case with Sherrill Paint and Body Co. I took my wife's 2 year old Beemer to this shop when a fallen tree damaged it during Katrina. At the time, the company's owner was a man named Rahj. They did a great job in restoring the car to it's original state. Unfortunately, after a number of years, the clear coat started to peel on the roof and the hood faded. I brought the car back recently for an assessment. It was then that I met the new owner, Tad Lidikay. After assessing the repaired areas and reviewing the documentation I provided, Tad had no hesitation in stating that "they would make it right". And he did. He re-prepped and re-painted the entire roof and hood on the car at no charge. My wife and I are delighted with the beautiful job they did. Obviously, Tad is committed to building a highly satisfied customer base, one customer at a time. Needless to say, he's got my business.

Highway 280 Paint & Body Shop
These guys went and got the truck for me, did marvelous work esp. matching the existing black paint.. They had it ready to roll when they said they would & Wally was someone I'll do business with in the future. They did a fantastic job and got it done much faster than I anticipated and the bill was my deductible plus a door handle that I carried off, which he sold to me at cost after painting it. They do great work and I give them 6 stars & they'll for sure be hearing from me again if I get in an accident. Thank you 280 Paint & Body.. Easiest experience I've EVER had with a body shop and you did what you said you would when you said you would and that goes a long way with me being in the service business myself.. A+++++++ Awesome Job!! Couldn't be happier!!!

Automotive and Truck Doctor
My daughter had her Infiniti towed to Crown Infiniti in Hoover to get a new altenator put in. These Bast#$@'s tried to charge her $813 plus $108 for the diagnostic check...I called 3 other dealers and they were all 35% less. Luckily I remembered JD at Auto & Truck Doctor on Lorna Rd...he did work for me 7-9 years ago. With one call he went and picked up the car, paid the Crown overpriced diagnostic fee, ordered the part and had the car ready for my daughter by noon the next day...at half the price!!! THAT"S WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT!!!!! Service, Service & Service at a fair price! Guess who's number is in my and my daughter's cell phone now??? Guess who I will bypass the next time...CROWN INFINITI of Hoover, Al.

Mr Transmission
I had to have my car towed in because unfortunately the gas stations gas delivery driver mixed diesel in the premium tank and put the premium in the diesel tank. As soon as I started driving it all hell broke loose with me car. The car got towed into mr transmission Monday morning they started checking it for me then had to flush out the bad gas, clean out the system and change the spark plugs and fuel filter. My car is a performance car so I was worried the diesel would mess it up but mr transmission made sure everything was fixed and running right! Got my car back and it's driving perfect! Thanks mr. Transmission!

Pep Boys Auto Parts & Service
I'm not one to normally write a review, but they just gave me such great and inexpensive service I had to share. I had my headlights replaced at a competitors and they kept going out. Brought it here and they figured out the problem immediately (the other guys had caused some injury doing it incorrectly) and replaced them. For 1/3 the cost of the competition!!! They were very friendly, professional, didn't try to sell me the most expensive product, and as an added bonus their client lounge is very nice- wifi, keurig coffee, and a nice TV. They're not in my neighborhood, but I'm bringing my car here from now on.

P T L Auto & Tire Center
Tim, John, Brandon and all the guys at PTL - Thank You for running such a wonderful, caring business! When we first moved to Birmingham 5 years ago it was a nightmare finding reliable, honest service providers. We were ripped off by plumbers, electricians, auto repair shops, you name it we ran into all kinds of crooks, until we were referred to PTL.They do business the old fashioned way - they earn your trust by being trustworthy. No inflated estimates or recommendations of things you don't need. They fix things right and stand behind their work. I would recommend PTL to anyone who cares about being treated right.

Precision Sales & Service Inc
I have a 2000 p32 workhorse safari motorhome. My brakes locked up in Florida and finding the right parts became a nightmare as the part numbers were "obsolete" according to NAPA and Chevrolet. Vin # searches were not working. I finally chanced upon this dealer by typing in workhorse on the computer and calling. Buddy Gamel not only had the parts I needed but talked me out of parts not needed that the roadside service wanted to me to order (a savings of $1450 ABS part). I want to commend The folks at this business for their expertise, professionalism, and patience. I highly recommend this company.

Mtn Brook Portable Detail
After a bit of a rough start with Mr. Cox I found him to be a very hardworking business person. He came out to my house and a time of my choosing (rainy/snowy & cold) to detail the inside of a used car I recently purchased. The inside of this car was dismal to say the least. Within a couple of hours he had the inside looking 110% better than it was. In fact he cleaned it way better than I expected and at a very reasonable price (about the same that other places charge but he came to my house) I would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to bet their car cleaned.
Tips & Advices
Yes. New tires purchased online can often be priced lower than ones at a tire dealership. Buyers can often avoid state sales taxes and locate hard-to-find tire styles and sizes, but will still have to locate a local tire installer and pay sometimes high shipping costs.
The average cost of a set of new tires is $637, with a range of between $525-$725. In addition, installation includes mounting and balancing, alignment, and disposal of old tires.
The vehicle is raised and the old wheels are removed, then the old tires are removed from the wheels. The lug nuts, wheels, and valve stems are inspected and replaced as needed. The new tires are mounted and sealed, then inflated and balanced. The wheels are then replaced on the car. The average installation takes approximately 45 minutes.
Agencies such as the Tire Industry Association promotes tire safety through advocacy and education to the industry including: manufacture, sales, repair, service and recycling. Seek a full-service tire dealer who carries a wide variety of tire types and brands and asks about the type of driving you normally do.
  • Move your car to a safe location.
  • Turn on your car’s safety lights, apply the parking brakes and remove the hubcap if there is one.
  • Loosen the lug nuts with a lug wrench (but do not remove them), raise the vehicle with a jack and then fully remove the lugnuts.
  • Remove the flat tire and replace it with the spare tire.
  • Tighten the lug nuts by hand, lower the car and then tighten them fully with the lug wrench.

Just a moment...
