DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. The first year I rented from them I did not run into any problems they were not to friendly but I didn't mind it I would drop my rent check off and I was on my way. When I started running into problems is when I was told I had free summer rent. I was in contact with them through out the summer while I was over 500 miles away from the apartment. Never once did they notify me that I had forgotten to transfer the electric and gas into my name. Instead they let the bills pile up in their name and slide it under the door at my apartment in which I was 500 miles away from. They had no problem calling me to ask when my official move in date for the fall was but didn't care to notify me that I had not transferred the utilities into my name and to do so. Instead the 3 months of "free" rent turned into 3 utility bills with multiple late fees. I figured if I didn’t have to pay rent and wasn’t living there I didn’t have to worry about the utilities. I was never told to transfer the utilities into my name and pay for them during my 3 months “free” rent.
When I moved into the apartment I was told to make a checklist of everything I seen wrong with the apartment so I was not charged. There were multiple dings and paint chips everywhere in the walls along with screw holes in the walls were the previous tenants hung pictures. There were stains on the carpet in every room and one of the rooms the carpet was fraying and coming up.
I have moved out of The Campus Village apartment and I asked them before I left about the utilities and if I should shut them off since they were in my name. I was told to not worry about it and that once my lease was complete at the end of May that they utilities would automatically be taken out of my name. It is now the end of June and I have been notified that I need to pay for June’s utilities because the utilities are still in my name. The apartment complex allowed someone else to move into my old apartment run the electric and gas bill up and now I am responsible because I did not remove my name from the utilities (after they told me my name would be removed once my lease was complete). I have still not received my security deposit back even though I did not damage their property or apartment what so ever. I can tell you from experience that they do not use that security deposit to clean the apartment before you move in either.
Overall, I would have rather moved into the dorms at Ferris State University in Big Rapids then live at the Campus Village Apartments. The office staff was completely unprofessional. I was called a "cheap college student" and told by the manager "you don't understand anything about money because you still rely on your parents to pay for everything". If you want to be treated like a lower class citizen rent from The Campus Village of Big Rapids.
Don't rent from campus village while living in these apartments I had the worst experience, and have never been spoken to so rude before. The property manager Linda is very rude and inconsiderate and has no people skills, which you would think a property manager would need. If you want a non hassle living experience and people that actually talk to you like a human, then DO NOT rent from Campus Village.
