Thurman Veterinary Center
Last week was the first time I had been to the Thurman Veterinary Clinic, and I must say it was an amazing experience! I was quite nervous because I own a pit/boxer mix who is fearful aggressive....very aggressive. We avoid going to the vet because I have had negative experiences in the past with vets not being able to handle her or just being plain scared of her. Dr. Thurman handled my baby girl with such a calm and understanding manner. She of course was growling through her muzzle and behaving aggressively, but Dr. Thurman didn't bat an eye. He took her out of the room to examine her and update her shots, and once with him, she no longer growled or made any attempt to make an aggressive move towards him. He brought her back in and explained that in his experience with aggressive animals, he has determined that "less is more". He was knowledgable and thorough with explaining what was wrong with my pup and was extremely professional. I would recommend him to everyone. He has taken the fear out of taking my Riley to the vet, which is a relief since she is getting up there in age and may need to visit more often in the future. Two thumbs up no doubt!

Olive Drive Animal Hospital
I changed from my regular Animal Hospital, that both my brother and I used and switched to this animal doctors office one day when I felt like we were being taken advantage of financially. Best thing I could have possibly done! This has been the best veterinarian for regular illnesses that aren't an emergency as well as checkups & shots. The doctor there is absolutely more than fair and he treats everybody as an individual case, rather than feeling like you're just one in the crowd and getting heardrd it through the line! Not only has he dealt with my animals in the past but I've taken all of my animals there my sister now that was there, my brother now goes there and my parents. I promise you that I wouldn't give you information that wasn't true and trust and believe that your dog, cat, kitten, puppy or any other type of animal that you may have is in extremely good hands at this doctors office.

Rosedale Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Sheahan is absolutely wonderful. When I had taken my dog Maggie to several different vets to take care of her allergies and they kept giving her predisone......1 visit and one allergy test later with Rosedale Vet and we had it handled. When my daughters cat Chilie Bean needed a specialized surgery and her vet could not do it......Heidi did the surgery rather than going down south. And last but not least, when my son's dog lost an eye, Heidi did the surgery rather than driving to Arroyo Grande or Ventura. Best of all, she loves animals and is great with them. This is her passion and she keeps up on all the new stuff coming out and is self sufficient when it comes to xrays and testing machines. If you want a long term vet for all your animals, just call Heidi at Rosedale Vet.

At The Oaks Pet Hospital
A HIDDEN GEM…My pet was near death. After being told only in Los Angeles could his needed procedure be done, I found At the Oaks Hospital. Dr. Sidhu performed the procedure and at a fraction of the cost. Dr. Sidhu’s professional diagnostic approach with his genuine concern put me at ease. Those I met in the waiting room were equally impressed with the Hospitals care and performance. Don’t waste your time and money going anywhere else! When your pet is sick you want answers and action! THIS IS AN EXCELLENT HOSPITAL…Oh yes…My Dog is doing Very well…

I have taken my pets for Dr. V for years and all of my animals love the staff, they make me feel welcome everythime I walk through the door. Even the new vet has made a mark on my pets. They are happier here then even the park. Once my little one got bite by something on her head and it got really big and the staff here did everything the could to make her feel beter and make me feel better at the same time. I am confindant leaving my pets here with the loving staff at north of the river vet hospital. Oh and grooming price are really good.

Olive Drive Animal Hospital
I am shocked when I read some of these angry reviews. I've been going here since 2007. My dog broke his leg and they did an excellent job of mending it. They also wound give him steroid shots and not charge me for an office visit, I only had to pay for the shot. Dr Jensen has never one time been absent from visiting with me one on one and explaining things to me. I like this place a lot!

I have been to this veterinary doctor a couple of months back and I was very pleased with everyone's service. I intend to take my dog in every time needed since he is an old dog and I trust the doctor and his staff.

All Critters Pet Hospital
Dr. singh Mahal has cropped the ears of my great dane, awesome results. Staff is very helpful. Very reasonable prices. YP.com could have done a better job if the picture of the dog was cropped properly.

Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
