Made reservations for my boyfriend's bday and to say the 1/2 hr wait was seemingless compared to the wonderful experience we had. Crab slider appetizers, courtesy champagne, sweet spanish red wine and the most tender grilled salmon by far. He especially enjoyed his surprise dessert on the house and the warm bread and delictable entrees. Loved our private booth far from the kitchen and look forward to coming back soon while visiting the Austin area!

I disagree with the prople who didn't like the crawfish. I can't comment on any of their other food, because I only go there for the crawfish. I'm not sure how they prepare it, but it tastes like they soak the crawfish in butter. Its good. Don't get me wrong, I like crawfish prepared in the traditional Louisiana way and really spicy. There are plenty of places that serve it like that and I frequent them too, but the crawfish at the crawfish shack is just prepared differently, and darn good in my opinion.

We've eaten at Freda's twice in the last week or so! Both times were really great. I highly recommend it. The Sea Bass was so good the first time I had to go back again. Others at the table all had great meals as well. I think they had Tilapia and a blackened dish. On the second visit we got there while happy hour was still going and enjoyed a couple of their appetizers as well. We ordered the calamari and the stuffed mushrooms(caper beurre blanc(sp?) sauce was grea). There was music on the patio both times. Jazz once and soft rock another. Nice, pleasant, not too loud. Service was good. Definitely will go back.

We're new to the Austin area but have dined at Pappadeaux's in Dallas and always enjoyed it. Needless to say, we were pleased to find a local restaurant and more than that, with our most recent dining experience. We dined with 29 of our neighbors from our community Empty Nester's dinner group on Wednesday evening, 4/14/2010, at 6:30 pm. We were seated in a private room and our server's (Betsy and America) were very efficient, pleasant and accommodating. Everyone was very pleased with their meal choices and portions, and their cocktails. Would I dine there again? You can bet on it! Well done Pappadeaux's Seafood Kitchen and thanks for the fantastic dining experience.

11.Dry Creek Cafe

I went on a Wednesday evening with a friend. Hadn't been in quite a while. Everything was the same, down to the hodgepodge of mismatched chairs and tables out on the back deck. I rated the service as not recommended because there is none. You go up to the bar, you order, you drink. But I've never found any other place where all the beers were $2 all the time. I've never found Shiner at that price except for the occasional 1-hour happy hour at other overrated Austin bars. The sunset was awesome that day. Don't know about the other reviewer who mentioned a tree line. Maybe they were just too short.

13.Victor's Seafood & Steak
3595 Ranch Road 620 S
Victors- Great steaks and seafood. New Chef is wonderful. Go Fri/Sat nights when the piano player is playing all types of music. Across the street from H. Depot on 620 in Bee Cave. Like most area restaurants, the front of the house wait staff could use some training, but the food makes up for this new startup. We've been at least half a dozen times. The chef is revamping the menu, he was a former Exec Chef at the Y Bar and Grill in Oak Hill before it went downhill. Have not tried happy hour, but the sign shows 20 food/drink items for less than $5.00 each. The crab stuffed salmon with a brandy cream and tarragon sauce was so good, I had to ask the chef for more sauce.

Here's the email chain from me and Adam Baker (owner): Monday, March 14 Good Afternoon - Your restaurant happens to be a family favorite that we frequent at least 3 times a month. However, the experience this past week, March 8, was beyond awful and embarrassing. I had clients come into town from Europe, and after traveling over 15 hours, they wanted alcohol and dinner. Without hesitation, I opted for your restaurant. We sat outdoors because they day was simply beautiful! Our server checked on us ONLY 2 times, although we were there for almost 2 hours. On top of that, the 3 appetizers (combo, alligator and shrimp diablos) were brought to us COLD. I personally had to go inside to order more beverages. Due to the lack of customer service, we lost our appetites and did not order dinner! I have no idea why we received such poor customer service and why the food quality was poor. My party was very easy going and not demanding. We simply wanted alcohol and snacks, and dinner with an occasional, ""may I get you something else""? Being I am at Captains often, I did not hesitate to take my clients there because the food is always fresh and hot, the service is always on point and the outdoor setting is simply relaxing. I am extremely disappointed and had no choice but to bring this matter to Managements attention. I certainly do look forward to hearing back from you, because I'm curious to know how this situation can be rectified. Thursday, March 24 Adam, It's been well over 2 weeks since I contacted your office regarding the lack of customer service and poor quality of food at the Austin location. I have yet to hear back from anyone as promised. Please make note that you have lost a very loyal customer of over 7 years. I will no longer take my family, friends or clients to Captain's. Thursday, March 24 Mam, My GM attempted to call you and I know it was while you were at work but I assumed you would return his call. I am out of the country and will not be back next till next week so am limited on what I can do at the moment. He wanted to speak with you to clarify what happened and try to make amends. He is a very understanding and competent manager so I know he will do the right thing. We appreciate your continued business and would hate to lose you. Adam Baker Thursday, March 24 You asked for a good time to reach me, I told you in the evenings and surely you passed that preference on to your GM. Your GM then called at 1:30 pm, while I was speaking at a conference, and with no follow up. If I can take time out of my day to waste money at your restaurant to be serviced awfully, dine on bad food, withstand embarrassment in front of my clients, and then send you an email to notify you while I'm in Canada, I'm worthy of a phone call during my preferred time frame, ""I can be reached best late evenings"". No need to respond again, this is going no where. From: info@captbennys Subject: Re: Experience at Austin location Date: Thu, 24 Mar 2011 15:46:13 -0500 I agree Adam Baker

The service and food was great! Once our server found out it was our first time, he was full of helpful suggestions. Our entrees were served quickly, even though a party of 12 was seated next to us. We were stuffed at the end of our meal, but we couldn't resist dessert so we took some fried cheesecake to -go. It was the best fried cheesecake I've ever had!

I loved the decor for one thing! The beer was ice cold, the oysters were great and when the main entree came out I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I did not expect so much from this little restaurant tucked in among the car dealerships. People are missing out!
