Juke Auto
People are always in search of a favorite restaurant, a mechanic, favorite clothes store, favorite gas station, hair salon, favorite doctor and so forth. When a person finds such places, they continue to return to because of, customer service, quality of work, atmosphere, location or price. Of these, at the top of the list is customer service, it’s what brings a customer back time and time again. There is a gem of an auto mechanic right here in Austin. I’m fortunate to be one of their regular customers because of their customer service and downright hospitality. Their quality of service has always been top notch; they do stand behind their work. Their price is very completive and very fair. I’ve been a customer of theirs since 2014 when someone recommended I take my car to Jukes Auto. It has been the best recommendation I have ever received. There have been numerous times I’ve had mechanical problems with the cars I’ve owned, the quality of their work have always been top notch. Customer service? Well, that has been nothing less than excellent. In the time since 2014, I’ve taken my car(s) to Jukes Auto; I’ve learned Jukes Auto is also involved in the Austin Community. I’ve met several people who recommended to find one of many of Austin’s “homegrown” restaurants, to me that also applies to car mechanics. Austin’s diversity is just one of Austin’s many strengths. As a transgender female, I have always been treated with respect and dignity by everyone at Juke’s Auto. A year ago, I had a headlight go out, I took my car by, Donny one of the shop managers got me in and taken care of right away. Two weeks ago, the same headlight went out, I again took my car in to, this time Mike, took care of me. Not only was my headlight replaced, Mike noticed I also needed an oil change. To me, this was taking care of me the customer. On 13 August, I again had a car problem, only this time the problem was with starting. After contacting USAA, I had my car towed to Jukes Auto. On Monday morning, I spoke with Mike, he said they already had my car in and was about to run the diagnostics. At 10 a.m., Mike called me to inform me I needed a clutch switch replaced, then he gave me an estimate of when they would have it ready. Like many people, I too depend on my car for transportation to and from work as well as to places like Wal-Mart, HEB, SAMS, Alamo Draft House, Kerby Lane, Patsy’s Cowgirl Café, UPTOWN, Wet Salon, Wax That and many other places. I had concerns there was a more serious problem, I was relieved to learn it was a clutch switch. Within three hours later, Mike called me to inform me my car was ready; I was pleasantly surprised my car was ready so fast. When the young man Bo arrived to give me a courtesy ride to pick up my car, he informed me the next day would be his last as he was returning to college. He said he was saddened to leave Jukes as he really enjoyed working for Mr. Jukes for the summer and had learned a lot. He also said he didn’t want to leave Austin. I was impressed by this young man’s politeness as well as his statement of enjoying working for Jukes Auto. It also demonstrated Jukes involvement in the community. Upon picking up my car, my gas hand was nearly on empty, which was taken care of by Jukes Auto. In the day’s since taking my car in, it’s never run better, it’s started every time, Word of mouth is the best testament to any business on quality of work and customer service. As I have done for a very long time, I will continue to spread the word about Jukes Auto. Jukes Auto is absolutely worthy of Austin’s BEST of Austin’s mechanics not only for 2017, Jukes Auto is Austin’s BEST MECHICHIC ….PERIOD !!

Cen-Tex Plating Company
I inherited two 1967 Plymouth GTX’s from my Brother-In-Law and brought them home to Texas from his place in Georgia recently. FYI, the Plymouth GTX was introduced into the Plymouth line in 1967 and this model did not share the styling or design with other MoPar models. Furthermore the body style changed completely in 1968 and thereafter. Why the long winded intro? ….Because none of the aftermarket classic car parts manufacturers produce reproduction parts for the 1967 Plymouth GTX and additionally only 12,010 units were built that year which is very low. This makes used parts scarce.I’m restoring both of these cars and needed the services of a good chrome plating company. I took the beat up front and rear bumpers from one of the cars to see how they would turn out being re-chromed. The owner David explained that he would send the bumpers to their San Antonio facility where they had patterns of all the bumpers made when the cars rolled off the assembly line and that their craftsmen would bring my bumpers back to match those specifications. Just thinking about that is really something. When I returned about four weeks later to get them I unwrapped one and was completely blown away. Nice work? No, spectacular work! The quality of the chrome plating was better than any I have ever seen. The bumper was repaired to perfection and the cost was much less than buying an aftermarket bumper which in this case is unavailable. I asked if he could refinish some of the pot metal, stainless steel and aluminum trim and he told me to bring them to him. I picked up a bunch of trim and molding from him today and was once again impressed beyond words. This company does outstanding work, at reasonable prices and the turnaround time is great. The only problem I have now is that all the other work on the cars has to be done to somehow match the workmanship standard set by Cen-Tex Plating Co Inc., no easy feat!

Active Motorwerks
I did a fair amount of research before deciding to take my BMW to Active Motorwerks. I have been in the Automobile business for twenty five years, and I know all most all of the tricks, and the ins and outs. My experience started with a pleasant telephone call, resulting in an appointment. Already impressed with the efficiency of the outfit, I took my car down there for what I hoped to be a routine procedure. Mario and his crew did everything they agreed to do , and a whole lot more. The trouble with the 540i was much greater than expected, but with the aid of the computer readout, Mario took me through all of the scenarios, explaining my options at every juncture. Although, I didn't want to spend the money, the empirical evidence on the computer screen was backed up with straight talk and common sense. I thoroughly recommend Active Autowerks to anyone with a BMW. I drove down from Salado, TX, and it was well worth it. It is refreshing to work with straight talking honest people who have the technical know how and demonstrate evidence to support their diagnoses. By the way, their labour rate , at $100.00/hr, is less than most domestics, who range from $112.50 to $120.00 . I'm not saying they should raise it, but it does underscore the value of a facility which specialises in jobs other people don't have the expertise to touch. Great job, guys. I will not bring my cars anywhere else.

Pampered Auto Care
They like to save you money through smart preventive care.Respectful. Honest. Edin and Amela are so passionate about automotive work, they'll educate you on paper (draw a diagram, write a list of the parts in question on a legal pad) and then point out the actual parts in your car, show you an old part and a new one, explain how the pieces work or why the fluid needs to be replaced and in what time frame. They even helped me get compensation from a different auto repair place that had used an incorrect bolt on one of my struts. They stand behind their work with old-fashioned ethics & integrity. You'll feel like you have dear friends or family members working on your car, who really care. They work on transmissions and did my 100K mile tuneup. They also do jobs as small as an oil change, but it's the kind of oil change where they check your alignment & tire pressure & fluid levels and inform you if anything needs attention. They're kind & humane. They'll offer help with logistics, like taking you to work or driving your second vehicle to wherever you need it.

Reliable Transmissions - South Austin
When my Audi A6 started slamming hard between 1st and 2nd I was pretty nervous about what was happening to my car. I have had it for a few years now without any issues at all, and although it has quite a bit of miles the car always drove great. Anyways, I did some research online and saw that Reliable has a north shop but just opened this shop which is closer to where I live. I liked that they had free towing because I stopped driving it after the harsh shifts. I didn't want to cause anymore damage then what was already done. So the towing was free and the inspection was free, everything was starting out on the right foot. David gave me a call with what they found, and the parts that he told me were damaged were consistent to the research I had done online myself. His prices were reasonable and payment plans worked well for me. As a young professional who just graduated, this repair really didn't have the best timing. But anyways, just everything from start to finish went smooth and pain free. David is great, he made this experience not so bad after all.

AutoNation Toyota South Austin
We have now purchased two new Tacoma trucks from Nassir Ahmed and his manager David Valdez. First one was August 1, 2015 and it was a beauty but unfortunately was totaled in an accident a few months back. The first deal was simply great. No nonsense, just a straight deal and everything you could ask for. So we went back for the 2nd one and picked it up yesterday. Another great transaction and would like to recommend AutoNation to anyone looking for a new Toyota. They ordered both trucks for us and we were able to get exactly what we wanted. No games, no padding the invoice with a bunch of make believe dealer add ons such as nitrogen, tinting, undercoating, etc. After attempting to deal with the San Antonio dealers this organization is a breath of fresh air. Even the F&I guys were great to deal with. No pressure from them to buy their add ons. They explained them and went on from there. Went home happy campers.

Leonard's Garage And Muffler Centers Inc
After reading the highly favorable online reviews for Leonard's, I decided to try them out on my 2011 Ford Escape. No question: FIVE STARS. While doing the 10,000 servicing, they identified the cause of a problem I had and recommended taking it to the dealer since it would be under warranty. They said to have the dealer call them if they had any difficulty determining the problem. Sure enough, the dealer called them.In addition, Leonard's staff is highly professional, friendly, and knowledgable, and their facility (South First St.) is spotless. They went to work on the car immediately, and the wait was a very reasonable 45 minutes. The best auto servicing experience I've had in my 45 years of car ownership.

Scotty's Driveshaft & Machine Inc
Most people dont need driveshaft repair everyday, but when you do usually you take what you can get. Well let me tell you Scottys can get you great service great pricing. They removed lathed and balanced my driveshaft reinstalled it and even showed and explained how these test are performed. Ive been in alot of shops. I could tell this was family owned and operated, I liked that. Everyone seemed to enjoy their jobs.As I set and wait which wasnt long 1hr during lunchtime. I could tell they really took care of customers. Im not a full fledged mechanic with a big shop. I just needed onetime Driveshaft repair. They still took care of me as a priority. Im recomending Scottys to everyone.

Mina's Auto Care
I had just moved to the area and was looking for my "personal mechanic". I went to the everyday Meinke and Lube n' Go...horrible customer service and overwhelmingly high prices for simple things like an oil change!! After my third time of not even being acknowledged at these everyday places, I took off and drove down Ben White. I noticed the sign for Minas and drove in. Greeted right away!! Fast, friendly, efficient and even when out of the way to please!!! First time, and I was a VIP member with a card for my 5th oil change free :) Jay truly cares about his guests and it shows. I always tell my friends and family to GO TO MINAS! Please spread the word...you will not be disappointed!

Austin Auto Savvy
Austin Auto Savvy fixed the whole AC system in my Subaru. The owner - Jaime - was very straightforward and honest about the price (which he stuck to), the work needing to be done (before doing it), and his experience with Subarus (he has the special Subaru tools). I will continue to take my Subaru there because of these factors and encourage others to check out his service. I've got a pretty good BS detector - Jaime seems to me to be very hard working and honest. I'm finally very happy to have found someone that I trust to work on my Subaru (especially since the Austin dealership has abominable customer service).
Tips & Advices
Depending on the part and its overall quality, a good amount of money can be saved by purchasing aftermarket parts versus OEM parts. But aftermarket parts that are low in price might also be lower in quality and could do more harm than good to your car, or they may need to be replaced more frequently than a more expensive counterpart. This could lead to saving some money in the short term, but spending more than anticipated in the long term.
The type of tires being purchased is the most significant determinant of their price. SUV tires are more costly than average car tires. And high-performance tires are more costly than economy grade tires. On average, standard tires for an average-sized vehicle are around $100 per tire. Standard tires for an SUV are around $150 and pick-up truck tires are about $200 on average. Some dealers offer discounts if purchasing more than one tire.
Car inspections typically take about an hour. However the wait time can be longer depending on how busy the shop is. Call ahead for an appointment to avoid long wait times.
Depending on the manufacturer, certain aftermarket parts can be just as reliable as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. But one item within a vehicle, like oil filters for instance, could have multiple manufacturers and there could be inconsistencies in quality among them.
Costs of replacing a windshield can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors:
  • Vehicle make and model
  • How much of the cost insurance will cover
  • Whether the windshield installers come to your location or you bring the vehicle to them
  • Standard service costs of the windshield installers
Generally, newer and higher-end vehicles cost more to have their windshields replaced because certain manufacturers use modified or proprietary glass types.
