I feel very lucky to have found this gem of a place for our 2.5 year old. He has been here for almost a year and we went from gently acclimating to being away from home to full potty training and now he asked us to take him to school on the weekends to see his friends. It's such a warm and caring environment. When I was searching I chose this place because it felt less scripted than some of the fancier looking places...my gut told me it was genuine and I am constantly pleasantly surprised by all our experiences we see our son picking up from this wonderful learning center. The director, Mrs Teran, knows each child and their personalities and how their days went...the teaching staff is so great and I have not seen any turnover which is exactly what I was told when I was searching. The work they do during the week gets sent home on Fridays and I can see the great things they are teaching my son and in addition he does things like taking his plate to the sink when he is done eating at home, picking up his toys, singing lots of songs, washing hands, learning his letters numbers and colors...I could go on. A bilingual/immersion experience was important to me, but I am loving that he is learning to be a good and kind person, not just smart, which is due to the loving environment provided here. I've had no issues with scheduling and find them very flexible when I have doc/dentist appts to work in or rare occasions where I get tied up with work and have our backups do pick up.
03/03/2013Sun Moon & Stars Learning Ctr
From the second that I saw the look on my son's face when we visited Sun, Moon and Stars I knew that this was a special place that would nurture and encourage my shy 3 year old. He attended SMS for a year and in that time he blossomed in to a funny, creative and caring boy. I attribute this to the environment that Ms Shalini, the director, has created with plenty of outside play and interesting centers inside. Ms. Allison's and Ms Karen's guidance as wonderful teachers also gave my son the confidence to learn and explore and grow in ways that I didn't know were possible.Unfortunately we moved to far north Austin and we could not make the commute to this wonderful place any longer, a decision that was not arrived at lightly. My son still talks about the school and all of the wonderful friends he made and the many songs and lessons that he learned. The only major con that others have mentioned is that getting in to and out of the daycare center can be treacherous, but you figure it out after a few weeks
We seek out the best educational experiences for our kids, and Little Folks is definitely that. My daughter wakes up every day cheering about going to school. She's reading and writing at a kindergarten level. She's three. And she's never stressed out or overworked--she just has a good time. She comes home with new songs and dances every day. Pleased as I am with her progress, it's Little Folks' work with my son that really takes the cake. He struggled with handwriting, and even after a year of occupational therapy, he couldn't form legible letters. Ms. Liseth had him writing words within four months, and enjoying it. When you visit, you'll notice that the classroom teachers can't give you their undivided attention during the school day. This is a good sign--they're engaged with the kids, constantly talking to them, teaching them things, encouraging them to work as a group. Finally, what a relief to find a truly diverse school in a city that is so often segregated by race and class.
My Victoria is has improved on her speaking, leadership and writing skills because the activities at Norman EAC is supporting what her Pre-K teacher, Ms. Williams, is teaching. Victoria just turned 4 this past June and I am astounded at the continued development of her fine motor skills in after-school care. She is even learning to cook! She can now make her own sandwiches! The workers who were there when the school year began, Ms. Aisha and Ms. Flor, both showed Victoria how to use her kindness rather than selfishness to build friendship and I truly appreciate them for their patience. Norman EAC is a HUGE blessing to Victoria and I am a grateful working parent.
My children have been at abacus since their opening, and we wouldn't send them anywhere else! After touring some other day cares in the area, we picked abacus based on their program that was unlike any of the other centers we had visited. My child who is in the three year old class room, spends most of her day outside the classroom, in resource centers like a computer lab, art room, library, gym and playground and in the summer time the splash pad. I love the fact that she is constantly being engaged. All the teachers we have had throughout their time there have been dedicated, caring and helpful and the facilities are outstanding.
My 2 year old daughter has been going here since they opened in May 2016, she has grown leaps and bounds compared to the previous pre-school she attended. The curriculum is very diverse and they teach sign language, numbers, letters and manners. From her teacher to the aides and administration, they're all very attentive to our child and genuinely seem to care. We wanted our daughter to have a good foundation, and rest comfortably knowing she's in the right place to do so. Oh, and the place is immaculate, and state of the art too!Thank you for all that you do!
