Our go to restaurant when we are craving bar-b-que. Staff is always friendly and attentive. They also do take out.
We ate there and my husband ordered the ribs......He is a rib lover...He said they were the most awful ribs he ever tasted....Burnt tasting. The manager asked him how it was.
He told her and she commented thats funny everyone loves our ribs.
We eat out approx. four times a week.......We definitely will not go back.....
my husband and i love eating at luellas, ever since they moved locations the food is out of this world. my husband sticks with the ribs and brisket but i love trying out all the new sandwich creations this place comes up with. i would recommend this place to everyone i know.
Andouille sausage and the brisket are faves. Love the spicy cole slaw & sweet potato fries! The music and the general vibe are convivial, with speedy and fun waitstaff. Prices are reasonable, good beer selection and specials. Can be cool on frigid nights, but the fare is worth it!
My wife and I daytripped to Asheville from Knoxville, planning to take the Blue Ridge Parkway and Newfound Gap back home after our visit. We stopped in Luella's for lunch. I had the brisket and my wife had the dry-rubbed ribs. The brisket was good, but not exceptional. The ribs looked great on the outside but were rife with fat, greasy, and very, very pink on the inside. We assumed it was just the pink from smoking. My wife ate about half the order before the fat content just became too much. We left Luella's thinking it was OK, but not great.
To make a long story short, after we left Luella's, we got on the BRP east of town, and it wasn't more than twenty minutes (literally in the middle of nowhere) before my wife received an emergency call from nature. Fortunately, we were reasonably close to one of the few stops with facilities on that part of the BRP. Unfortunately, as we pressed on, she received yet another colonic call to action. Since we were nowhere near any facilities, I took the first road off the Parkway I could find, which ended up being 215 south to Rosman. After a miserable half hour (or more) of the most winding, twisting, and turning road I've ever driven, we arrived in Rosman, basically lost and hours away from our intended path.
It was a nightmare that ruined what should have been a nice fall trip thought the mountains, and it all happened because Luella's couldn't cook a side of ribs until they were done.
