I had the New York Strip center-cut, yesterday at the Red Lobster in Ames. Excellent cut of meat, cooked to medium perfectly, and served piping hot. Can't ask for more than that. When I told the waitress that, she said the cook was a ""grill master"" and was about to go to a competition in Chicago. Made sense. My lunch partner had the Maple Glazed salmon and Shrimp, she gave it a 5 also. A good flavor combination.

Tried this place last night and was highly impressed. The pork and beef meals were very tender and had excellent flavor. Great service and prices too.

This place is the BEST!! We have been going there once a week after our daughter's therapies. They are always right on top of things. They know our little one likes bacon and they always have it ready for her. They are a wonderful, WONDERFUL bunch of people and are like family. Food is Great! Service is Great! I would certainly recommend them to everyone!! They have a senior menu which is great for decreased appetites as we age. The children's menu is great and Tuesday is free kids meals. Their appetizers are yummy too. Ok, never, ever had anything that wasn't good. Thanks to each and everyone of them!!

Dessert/Coffee shop on one side, full restaurant on the other side, and nice outdoor seating shared by both: this is a very nice and very popular place. Menu is very small and very focused: if you don't like breakfast or light offerings this is not the place for you: I ordered the Eggs with Short Rib. Simply amazing. But maybe the lunchtime Bloody Mary influenced my judgement. Waitstaff are friendly, but their system of checking you in and waiting is terrible. Expect to wait, and expect to be annoyed and uncomfortable the whole time you wait to be seated.

If you head up to Ames and dine at Hickory Park, you won't be going home hungry. If you get a dinner, you will get generous sized portions on a large plate. If you have a sweet tooth, you can order right off your placemat your favorite ice cream treat. The malts are EXCELLENT. It is a bit of drive from Des Moines, but if you are passing through, be sure to stop and eat at Hickory Park, and if you live in Ames, you already know how good it is!

I lived in Ames for five years and West Street Deli has the best sandwiches and soup around. My girlfriend and I would frequent the deli and wish we could find someplace even close to the price and quality of food in the Twin Cities. (If anyone has any reccomendations, let me know.) \r \r You have to be careful of the hours. I believe they have limited hours or are closed on Sundays. We strategially plan our meals when we go back to Ames around their hours, which shows how great we find their sandwhiches to be.\r \r As far as the lines and service, I have never had an issue. The line may be out the door during peak periods, but as with anyplace, it shows how wonderful the food is. The line also moves pretty quick as most of the locals know what they are ordering ahead of time. \r \r Now that I wrote this review, I am going to have to plan a trip down to Ames.

Welch Ave has become one of my favorite bars in Ames over the past few months. The drinks are always at a great price and made just right. I have gotten really tired of bars that serve drinks that are way to strong to the point were I can't even drink my drink. Welch Ave's drinks are never too strong and the staff is very nice and the atmosphere of the bar is very chill and nice, which is a nice change. The location of the bar is also very convenient because it is right on welch ave in the center of campustown and it is also at the bottom of Pizza Pit so if you ever get hungry you can just order from your waitress and the food will be brought down.

Not that Stomping Grounds was ver just coffee, but now it's a full service european- style (outside seating available) cafe. I highly recommend the Turkey Avacado sandwhich. They have many unique beers and wines to chose from. With great food and beverages, atmosphere (custom designs and live music) and service, this is a great hangout, date-spot, or college students bring you parents here to show them the better side of college-town dining.

I love this place! Jimmy's has the best barbeque in town, probably in Iowa! The whole place, kinda small, but looks very cowboyish. I love the look of the inside of the place almost as much as the food which is sooooo good! Just walking by it and smelling the barbecue makes you hungry!

I love hamburgers. I moved to Story County from Chicago a few months ago and I could not find a decent hamburger in the area. Then a lady I work with told me about a little diner in Boone. I drove over there on a Saturday. I walked into a diner, but it didn't look like I was expecting it to look. I realized I was in the wrong place, so I left. I drove around a little more and I found a sign that said Dixie's Diner. Just seeing the inside of the place is a good reason to go. It rocks! I ordered the Dixie Burger. It was huge. They put everything I wanted on the hamburger. I had fried onions, chopped onions, pickle relish, cheese, lettuce, mayo, tomato and pickles. It was served in a basket and the burger was so big that the cook put the chips and pickle on a plate. I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. I had a fork, so I used that. What a great hamburger. Then, I had a treat I haven't tasted since I was a kid. I had a rice krispy bar-made with peanut butter and it had chocolate on the top. It is just like my mom made when I was a boy. What a tasty treat and a fun place to eat. The diner is sparkling clean and done up in 1950's style. There is lots of chrome, red and black inside the diner. The bathrooms are really clean, too. The server was well trained and looked really pretty in her poodle skirt. Dixie, the owner came out of the kitchen and talked to me. She is a really nice lady. I will be back!
