Brian K Thompson Atty
Retained for a $10,000 flat fee in 2013, Brian Thompson and his staff have pervasively failed to deliver any resolution as promised for a contested, out of court "time sensitive" succession. Out of an estate estimating well over $150,000, I was given a haul trailer with no documents for a bill of sale to prove ownership, calls are never returned by staff or Mr. Thompson himself for two consecutive years. His insistence that everything is the respondent's counsel's fault, and inconsistencies about everything from estate appraisal values, to my known whereabouts after repeated visits and phone calls are beyond intolerable. I have never received an itemized explanation of expenses, yet he was provided with a $10,000 cashier's check from the date of consultation because he claimed he was "very busy, and if you need receipt of estate funds in a timely manner, work needs to proceed immediately". Nothing was or to date has been done regarding the sale or division of succession property for two years, despite his deceptive statements, such as "holding the executors' feet to the fire" to get the case finalized so that I can move forward with putting this massive family betrayal behind me. After being compliant in every way possible, I have now been forced to report the case to the Louisiana Office of Disciplinary Counsel, so that this attorney can be investigated for deceptive and unethical behavior, DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN ANY MONEY!!!!

Spence David P
Four years ago I was a patient of Dr. Dean who worked as a partner with Dr. Spencer. When I went into labor, my dr. was out of town and the on call Dr was Spencer. I was in labor for 18 hours and he only showed up the last 30 minutes before I gave birth. The nurses kept calling him, but he did not show up until the next day. One of the nurses had to break my water so I could start pushing. When he finally showed, he was not patient during the delivery. He cut me so the baby would come out faster. My husband said the nurses in the room had shocked expressions when he did that, so I'm guessing it was not necessary for him to cut me. My baby ended up swallowing meconium because it took so long to deliver her and she had to stay in NICU for a week. I went to a different Dr during my second pregnancy and delivery this year. She was great. She came in every 1 to 2 hours to check on me and was their the entire time I pushed helping the baby come along. Comparing the two, I know now how unlucky I was to have Dr Spencer be on call during my first delivery.

Brian K Thompson Atty
We retained Brian K Thompson on January 31,2014, and paid him $3.000.00 to represent us when the succession of our parents were filed. However, he allowed them to obtain a judgment against us with even being in court. Moreover, he has spent over $2.000. of this money and we are further away from having our day in court then we were in January. Now, he need some 6 copies that has been filed in this record. Please pray that this attorney will be honest with us and have a back bone.

DO NOT use this law firm!!! These guys cant even fix seat belt tickets. They will take your money and you will never be able to even get in touch with them again. Paid them $1000 and never heard from them again. I had to go to the police station and pay off all fines. Was told a lawyer never even contacted them.

Tips & Advices
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you. After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online, such as yellowpages.com. You can check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, or you need help to navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. Also, during times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you might need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available.
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
  • You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship.
  • The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
  • You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Ask as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant. Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
You can ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases. You should check their office for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You can also ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
