Akron Family Dental Center
This is absolutely one of the best dental experiences I have had, and this is from someone who has had a fear of dentists for most of their life. I tend not to even go unless there is a problem. I chipped a piece off of my wisdom tooth a week ago, and had some mild pain and discomfort. I went to the Locust St. clinic first, and they insisted it could not be pulled normally, and that I would have to be seen by an oral surgeon to cut it out. I was terrified, but I assumed they knew best, since they had taken my x-rays (decided in less than 15 seconds after looking at the tooth that it would have to be surgically removed). The only problem was that the surgeons they recommended would not be able to see me for several weeks. I resigned myself to taking tylenol, and then I started looking up other dentists. I called Akron Family Dental on a Monday, and told them what I had been told by the other office, and they made an appointment for me in 2 days. Dr. John Brooke was who I saw, and he is wonderful. The best dentist I have ever been to. He was friendly and professional, and told me he would definitely be able to take care of it. He laid out all of the risks that can happen with a wisdom tooth extraction to make sure I knew and was prepared for what could happen, and then promptly went to work with the help of his assistant (another lovely person named Rachel). He had to stick me more than once with the Novocaine, and I barely felt discomfort. It took him less than 15 minutes to do work to some cavities he discovered, and to pull out the tooth (that part took less than 3 minutes tops). He was so fast and did such a smooth job, I had to ask if he had finished taking the tooth, because I didn't believe he could've taken it out so quickly and perfectly. I was thrilled...as much as you can be at the dentist's :). Highly recommended, and I hate having to go to the dentist. I would go back in a heartbeat, I just hope I don't have to for awhile.

Petry & Walton DDS
They are the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. After I left the Army due to injuries sustained from Iraq; I was left with no medical and messed up teeth. Dr. Petry took me under his wing and has made my smile "pretty" again. Every time I have a surgery two days after Dr. Petry calls to check up on me; my own doctor who conducted the surgery did not even call me. I feel like I am home when I am there (minus the pain)(LOL) and they treat people with the most upright respect. I have not let TONS of doctors work on me because what happened in my past, but Dr. Petry is a great and very well educated man. If your looking for a dentist in the Akron, Canton, Fairlawn and etc. area this is the PERFECT place to go. Even if you live in Cleveland or New York /city it is well worth the drive to this dentist's office. I can not stress how impressed I am with them there. They make every customer a member of their family and I am PROUD to say I am "apart of their family"!!!! Thanks again everyone at Dr. Petry's office because of you all I'm once again not afraid to smile!!!!

American Dental Center
I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with the American Dental Centers facilities in NE Ohio (Chapel Hill, & Elyria OH) The entire staff is always friendly and personable, the prices are very reasonable, and my personal dentist Dr. Balaze is incredible. The only dentist on earth I have ever had that can give a Novocaine injection without any pain. 5 stars in my book!!

Affordable Dentures
The dentist did a good job. I had similar work done by other dentist and it was painful, but not with this dentist. I have already recommended him to friends. I really like the people who work there very personable and polite. I was nervous, but the staff and the dentist made it a good experience for me, and I say to them all a very heart felt "Thank You" !!

Gerstenmaier Pediatric Dentistry
We've been coming to Dr. G for the last 5 years. LOVE HIM! His son has now joined the practice as well. From the previous review, the receptionist has now been replaced. I agree, she was rough on the edges, but the dentists are AWESOME!

Tips & Advices
The most common dental problems in children are:
  • Cavities
  • Bad breath
  • Gum disease
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Grinding
  • Canker sores
  • Missing teeth
  • Extra teeth
  • Bite and alignment issues
Thumb sucking is not specifically a dental problem, but it can cause a malocclusion, a condition where the top and bottom teeth don't line up correctly.
To clean a baby's teeth, use a small, soft-bristled toothbrush designed specifically for infants. Apply a tiny amount of non-fluoride toothpaste - about the size of a grain of rice - and gently brush all sides of the teeth and the tongue. Before the baby's first teeth emerge, use gauze or a wet washcloth wrapped around the finger to wipe the gums. This motion doesn't necessarily reduce bacteria, but it does help the infant to get used to the sensation of having his or her teeth cleaned.
Children should visit their pediatric dentist every six months. This recommended frequency does not change throughout a person's lifetime.
No, wisdom teeth do not need to be removed unless they cause pain, lead to dental issues, or are aligned incorrectly.
Yes, dental sealants prevent cavities by filling in deep grooves in the teeth. Without them, bacteria can collect in these areas and cause tooth decay, which can happen with children.
