A cat's air of independence does not mean that it can take care of all its own needs. Cat owners have important responsibilities such as providing food and water, social interaction, and changing the litter box regularly. Remember, cats have only one life, not nine! To prevent life-threatening diseases and enjoy a healthy life, your cat will require regular veterinary medical checkups and vaccinations as well. I grew up in Florida, having moved around a lot because of my father's job as a hospital administrator. At an early age I knew I wanted to work with animals, although that train was almost derailed when I saw a large animal veterinarian have his arm up one of his aunt's horse's rear. But despite this, my interest in veterinary medicine persisted, and when my family moved to Macon, Ga, I started to work at my family veterinarian's office as a kennel helper. Ultimately I went to the University of Georgia where I got my undergraduate degree, and was then accepted to the veterinary school at UGA. After graduating from veterinary school in 2004, I completed a one year residency at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs.
