Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that is caused by having an overactive immune system that produces skin too quickly in areas. This sped-up process results in inflamed, itchy skin that may be red or scaly in appearance. Although there is no cure, there are many options available for managing psoriasis. Treatment can help improve the appearance and symptoms of psoriasis as well as lower the risk of developing other health conditions such as psoriatic arthritis, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and depression.

Dr. Michael J. Ford is a board certified dermatologist who graduated in 1982 from the University of Florida Medical School with Alpha Omega Alpha honors society membership. He completed his internship and family practice residency at the University of Alabama. He then completed a dermatology residency at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Ford joined the faculty at the University of Florida (Shands) where he was a professor from 1991 to 1999. He was instrumental in helping start the University of Florida Dermatology Residency. In 1999, he entered private practice in Tallahassee. He loves teaching and continues to share his knowledge with family practice residents, internal medicine students and FSU medicine students. Outside of Southeastern Dermatology, Dr. Ford enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Elaine, have two children and two grandchildren. Mohs Surgery
Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized, highly effective technique for the removal of many types of skin cancer. We remove thin layers of cancerous tissue, checking each layer in our state-of-the-art laboratory to ensure the cancer is removed while sparing cancer-free tissue. Mohs is performed under local anesthesia while the patient is awake. After a layer is removed, the patient will have time to enjoy a beverage or snack in our private waiting area. Because the tissue is removed and examined at the time of surgery, our patients are usually able to receive treatment in one visit. Mohs surgery is recognized for reporting the highest cure rate among skin cancer treatments.

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
Botox is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by immobilizing the underlying muscles. Botox is a quick treatment (10-30 minutes). Results will appear between 1-5 days. Botox typically lasts 3-6 months, depending on how well your body reacts to the injection.

Face Lift
If you are looking for less invasive way to combat signs of aging. PDO threads are a less expensive, easier, and faster alternative to a facelift. The results are typically instant, although less dramatic than a facelift. The risks and recovery time with PDO threads are minimal, and most can return to work the same day.

Eczema
Eczema, sometimes called atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition that often appears as patches of dry or red, itchy skin. It most commonly begins in infants and young children with about half those patients also having it as an adult. It is rare for eczema to appear for the first time as an adult. Eczema is diagnosed by our providers, and treatment is tailored to our patient’s needs. Most treatment plans consist of skin care, medical therapies and tips to avoid flare-ups.

Cryosurgery is a procedure in which a lesion or growth is destroyed by the application of an extremely cold product called liquid nitrogen. Warts and solar keratoses are frequently treated by this method. The procedure that can be performed quickly and will minimize downtime. Sometimes lesions treated with this method may need additional freezing later on.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are an advanced skinresurfacing treatment used to improve skin problems or signs of aging. Treating a myriad of issues from wrinkles, and discoloration, to scars and texture. Chemical Peels can treat at depths, from light to deep. Moderate/Deeper chemical peels offer more-dramatic results, but will require more downtime.
