i've been taking my cars to Raleigh Merchant Tire locations for oil changes. Recently, with the car was on the rack for an oil change/tire rotation, was informed my front axel CV boot was breaking down, recommended replacement or else jeopardize the axel bearings and more. Received a quote of $500+ dollars to replace both front axels including damaged CV boots. I passed, contacted my reliable mechanic whom beat their quote by $200 with a life time guarantee. In process, was notified the right axel CV boot had another 40,000+ miles left. No evidence of damage, tears, dried brittle conditions, nothing. As for the left front CV boot axel, a small clean tear was present, with slight amount of grease on the CV boot exterior. The grease contained no grime. Were am i going with this ? Per my mechanics opinion, the CV boot appeared to be slashed by a razor, not by normal wear and tear, and very recently. Right CV boot had est 45K+ miles remaining. Merchants, you've lost my business.

We came to merchants tire today for a simple oil change. When we got there we were told we had to set an appointment, which was fine. Later when we came back, we were told it would be 30-45 mins for them to finish, so we left to burn time while we waited. When we returned, the car was in the same spot and they told us that they were just getting to it. Terrible customer service.
