Overall

Dr. Robertson and his staff have been our vet of choice for our 10 pets since 2000. We have never had a negative thing happen on any of our visits and Dr. Shell has been beyond professional in every respect. He is caring and attentive and we absolutely wouldn't go anywhere else. The fees have never been excessive at the CL Animal Clinic and I would never go anywhere else for vet services unless Dr. Shell retired.

Overall
CL animal clinic has the most unhelpful vet staff

I Have been a pet owner for 26 years and I have never had such a horrible experience with any animal clinc/hospital. CL animal clinic has the most unhelpful vet staff with the worst attitudes. The vet did a spay on our 6 month old puppy. 2 days later her Stichs were falliing apart and the incision showed signs of a infection. We took her to the CL, it was closed because it was a Saturday. Unfortunately CL clinic is closed on the weekends and we had to take her to the animal hospital. The infection was so bad that she needed another surgery ($709). when I contacted the CL vet on Monday to ask why this would happen the vet would not talk to me. I could only talk to the front staff. I asked if we could be refunded our spay seeing that the surgery had to be redone they refused to compensate us at all. They

The customer service is horrible. I was told I would get a call back that I never received. Kevin (the receptionist) refused to give the phone # for the vet board and hung up on me. When I called back he placed me on hold never coming back to the phone. Needless to say ILL NEVER TAKE MY PETS BACK TO THIS PLACE.

This was possibly a reaction to suture material. The incision was closed with a subcuticular pattern leaving a suture knot at each end of the incision. It is a great technique for hiding the suture and allows most pets to heal nicely without returning for suture removal. However, just like in humans, reactions to foreign material do occur. The activity of the pet and the pet's ability to reach the incision site can also play a role in introducing infection and causing trauma. Hardly a week goes by without a pet returning for us to examine a previous surgical site. An appointment is not required. The incision site is first viewed by a technician and then the pet is examined by a veterinarian to assess proper treatment such as closure of the wound (skin staples)if there is a lot of gapping. Most of the time there is just some drainage in which antibiotics are then dispensed. We see some pets about a month after surgery that have trouble absorbing the suture knots. It will look like a blister over the knot. When this happens the suture knot is removed. We do not charge an office visit to examine a surgical site if the procedure was done here or require an appointment. All surgeries are performed aseptically. Any infections introduced into the surgical site is beyond our control once the patient leaves the facility. I have never reopened a spay due to a suture reaction or secondary infection from licking. I believe the post op treatment was excessive.

Dr. Robertson; The BEST vet around!

Dr. Robertson has been our chosen Dr. for our pets for about 13 years. He did surgery on my dogs leg as a puppy after another vet said our dog would never walk correctly. Our dog is 13 years old and runs. Dr. Robertson was very helpful in sharing the knowledge of having a puppy with my kids and taught them the responsibility they were expected to accomplish. He is kind, very patient, caring, very knowledgable with his job and loves doing what he does.

They Killed My Puppy

I brought my puppy (which I owned since he was born and that had been vaccinated at the facility three times) in to Canyon Lake Animal Clinic because he had lost his appetite and began to throw up.

Dr. Robertson ran a test and identified the puppy's illness to be a result of contracting the Parvo Virus. He informed me that it was going to be roughly $500.00 for the first day to get the puppy started on the road to recovery, and I gladly paid it. I called in the first day of his stay and was informed that my puppy was doing fine and I would likely be able to take him home after the weekend.

However, on Saturday when I called, the doctor had me hold while he switched phones. Then he informed me in hushed tones that over night the IV had caused the vain in my dog's leg to explode. However, that wasn't what killed him; as per the doctor, someone set the puppy's cage up incorrectly, and he was able to crawl to the edge of the cage that didn't have hot water bottles lining the bottom of the cage for warmth and he got cold as he bled out and died. Can you imagine what an agonizing death that was!? Freezing and bleeding to death ALL ALONE!

I was horrified. At that point, I drove down to the facility to pick up my puppy's remains so that I could burry them on my property. When I got to Canyon Lake Small Animal Clinic, obviously upset over the terrible way that the puppy died and the doctor's blatant stupidity, one of the female staff members there asked me if I wanted her to take him out of the PLASTIC BAG before she gave him to me to wrap in his blanket! These people do not care about your animals, they only care about money. For the sake of your animal(s), please avoid Canyon Lake Animal Clinic and Dr. Shell Robertson.
