How is it correct to pour concrete during freezing weather when the pour is outside?

Answer

Anonymous

It is generally not a good idea to pour concrete during freezing weather as it can significantly impact the strength, durability, and appearance of the finished product. However, if the pour must be done during freezing weather, the following measures should be taken:

  1. Ensure that the concrete is at the right temperature before pouring. The concrete should be between 50°F and 60°F to prevent freezing.
  2. Use a concrete mix that is specifically designed for cold weather. These mixes contain additives, such as accelerators, that help the concrete set quickly.
  3. Use insulated forms or blankets to keep the concrete warm during curing.
  4. Use a curing compound that can protect the concrete during the critical early stages of curing.
  5. Start the pour early in the day to allow the concrete enough time to cure before nighttime temperatures drop.
  6. Protect the concrete from freezing temperatures with insulated blankets or hay bales.
  7. Monitor the curing process closely and take corrective action if necessary.
