Insects and Spiders

Ants
With at least 700 different species of ants in just the United States, controlling them can be quite difficult and pretty tricky, especially if they aren’t your specialty.
Spiders
A: Sawyer can provide treatment for spiders including web removal. There are several different species of spiders found in North Carolina including the poisonous Black Widow and the Brown Recluse.
Termites
Termites are a specialty here at Sawyer along with other wood destroying insect treatments. No challenge is too big or too small!
Fleas
It is not necessary to have pets in the building in order to have a flea infestation. Since fleas can jump about 6 inches, they can easily hitch a ride on shoes, trousers, etc. Many vacationers who may have been unaware of the few adult fleas present in their home are often greeted and severely attacked by fleas upon their return. Even if the home has been empty for as long as six months or so, the eggs can remain dormant and will hatch upon return.
Cockroaches
A: We do treat for roaches and there are several different species including the Oriental, the Smoky Brown, the German, the Wood roach and those are to just name a few. Each treatment is applied for the type or types of roaches that are infesting. Did you know that roaches are cannibalistic? When one dies, another will eat them. Gross? Yes. But it causes a domino effect of sorts that plays a part in their control.
Silverfish
A: Often Silverfish are in residence due to paper being stored somewhere in the home. We can treat for them and do recommend that the paper food source be removed.
Bees
Carpenter bees are not social and do not live in nests or colonies like many other bees. The adults will overwinter, most often in abandoned nest tunnels. In the Spring, the survivors emerge, feed on nectar and the mating begins. Mating extends into the nest construction time where the female bee will use an old gallery or hole or bore an entirely new one. So the carpenter bee isn’t eating the wood but actually boring into it to create the nesting. Either way, it’s causing damage to the wood. Females of the carpenter bee will nest in a wide range of woods but prefer weathered, unpainted wood.
Wasps
Bees, hornets and wasps (and the many species of each) are for the most part beneficial as they are the major pollinators of flowering plants. They do however claim a percentage each year of reported deaths making their control mandatory at times.

A: These are Camel Crickets. They like dark, dampish places like basements and crawlspaces. The good news is that they are fairly easy to be rid of with a treatment.

Rodents
Rodents indigenous to North Carolina include the Deer mouse, House mouse, White-footed mouse, the Cotton rat, Norway rat and Black rat (among other common names).
Mice
A: We can treat for mice and rats but only within State controlled regulations (as it is our goal to SAFELY provide pest control). Rodents can be treated for if the home or structure is on a crawlspace. If there is no crawlspace, alternative trapping methods are used. Typically rodents enter the home through small cracks and holes. Check the pipes coming into your home as well and stuff those openings with steel wool, mice hate it!
Rats
Rats are wary of new things to their environment, including new rat control measures such as traps or baits. They typically will colonize in dark areas like attics, burrows, under porches and concrete and in wall voids or other hard to access spaces.
Squirrels
Adult fleas are small and without wings, measuring about a tenth of an inch. They are parasites that draw blood from a host (dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, rats, mice and other mammals), although humans are not a preferred food source for fleas, they can and do bite us.
