What the Comprehensive Evaluation will Do for You?. Your first visit to our practice will consist of a comprehensive oral evaluation. You will be with us for approximately one hour. How Porcelain Veneers Improve your Smile. Veneers are used to close gaps or cover teeth that are stained, poorly shaped, or slightly crooked. To provide form and help strengthen a veneer, a small amount of enamel may be removed from the front and edge of the tooth. Using resin cements, the veneers are set in place. Placing a veneer may be an irreversible process because a small amount of enamel is removed to accommodate the thickness of the veneer shell. Some veneers, known as “no-prep veneers” are placed over intact enamel.

Bridges
This is an option for filling the space created by a missing tooth. It is formed to look like the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge use the two surrounding teeth for support, hence the name. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge work is as much an art as it is an exact science. The materials used may be gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic material. The choice of material depends on requirements for strength, wear, and/or aesthetics. It is important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the gap begin to shift inward, creating a whole chain reaction of bad things. Teeth use their neighbours for support, and, with one missing, they start to “fall.” As this worsens the bite changes in response to the pressure. This can eventually result in problems with the entire jaw.

Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatment, or when a large filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity or defective filling that needs to be removed, the more likely it is that Dr. Green will recommend a crown. Keep in mind that teeth are subjected to tremendous pressures from chewing food. Crowns function to prevent breakage, as well as making for a nice smile. A crown may be completed the same day that decay or a defective filling is removed from the tooth. The tooth is shaped to accept the crown and a digital impression is made of the prepared tooth for use in fabricating a crown. The crown is made of high-strength porcelain, or a ceramic-like metal material known as zirconia, in the office. At the end of the appointment, Dr. Green adjusts the crown as needed and then cements it in place.

There are different types of dentures, but they share a common function. They replace teeth that have become loose due to bone loss or have been extracted. No one enjoys losing their natural teeth, but patients can achieve the goal of eating and talking normally and having a natural, beautiful appearance. Dentures are fitted to go over or around whatever teeth remain in the mouth, or replace all the teeth in the mouth. Often implants can be used to further stabilize a denture. A Teeth-In-A-Day treatment, also known as an All-On-Four treatment is a type of denture which is held in place by implants.

Braces

Teeth Whitening
There are two types of whitening procedures. Whitening done in the dental office is known as “Chairside Bleaching”. “In-Home Bleaching” is a custom system dispensed to patients for use at home. Chairside Bleaching takes about one hour. To protect the mouth, a gel-like substance is applied to the gums and a rubber shield is placed around the lips. A chemical solution, the whitening agent, is applied to the teeth. A special light may be used to activate the agent. A home touch-up kit is included in the treatment to keep the teeth as white as possible all year. With In-Home Bleaching, impressions are made of the teeth, custom-fitted bleach carriers are fabricated which patients wear for up to two hours daily or overnight for two weeks. The amount of time and the number of days the custom-fitted tray is worn will vary according to a person’s individual needs. Dr. Green monitors the entire process of Chairside Bleaching and In-Home Bleaching to access the effectiveness and safety of the treatments.
