Dental Examination
Regular dental exams and cleaning visits are essential in preventing dental problems and maintaining the health of your teeth and gums. At these visits, your teeth are cleaned and checked for cavities. Additionally, there are many other things that are checked and monitored to help detect, prevent, and maintain your dental health.
X-rays
The dentist will use medical history, family history and dental X-rays to assess the risk factors for periodontal disease and determine the exact condition of the gums, teeth and underlying jawbone. If necessary the dentist will work in conjunction with other doctors to ensure that both the diabetes and the gum disease are being managed and controlled as effectively as possible.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral Cancer Screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning
Once your periodontal treatment has been completed, Dr. Bellinghiere and our dental hygienist will recommend that you have regular maintenance periodontal cleanings, usually four times a year. At these appointments, the pocket depths will be carefully checked to ensure that they are healthy. Plaque and calculus that is difficult for you to remove on a daily basis will be removed from above and below the gum line.
Fluoride Treatment
Regular cleanings and check-ups help preserve healthy teeth and gums and prevent the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. It starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet, and continues in the dental office with regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays, sealants and fluoride. All of these work together to protect your teeth!
Dental Sealants
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. Sealants can protect teeth from decay for many years, but need to be checked for wear and chipping at regular dental visits. Sealants are easily applied by Dr. Bellinghiere or our dental hygienist and the process takes only a couple of minutes per tooth.

Fillings
There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Composite fillings, along with silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today. Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.
Resin Composite
Inlays/Onlays are made of composite resin, porcelain or gold. Inlays/onlays are usually best for the chewing surfaces of teeth and are utilized to repair teeth that have large defective/unattractive fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma.
Veneers
Getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process, with little or no anesthesia required during the procedure. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and the dentist.
Crowns
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Bridges
A fixed bridge is generally made of porcelain and is anchored permanently to a natural teeth adjacent to the missing tooth site. While very turdy, the disadvantage is that in order to create a fixed appliance, two healthy, natural teeth will have to be crowned (capped) to hold the bridge in place.
