after booking it for a long weekend getaway in feb with my wife , we found this to be a fantastic budget hotel in a most exellent location in manhattan , close to loads of great restaurants ( hill country on east 26 ) bars and all the major attractions , is in walking distance of 4 of the metro lines so getting uptown/queens and downtown/brooklyn was so easy , lets be honest , this is a budget hotel so if your expecting the ritz then get a life , we took a suite on the 8 floor , 2 large rooms and a bathroom. Plenty of space. Also regarding the heating. Midtown is run by a communal heating system. It is widely know that radiators his and clang from time to time. If you want to go there, it will happen at any place. We just turned off the rads at night. Its not hard, you just turn a knob on it! bed was very comfy

I travelled to New York alone a couple of years ago and stayed at the Gershwin and it has never left me! I just wanted to take time to recommend it online. Rooms are much more spacious than typical accomodation in this price bracket, and it has a lovely quirkiness about it I just fell in love with. It was very NY apartment living style but within a hotel, giving the option of meals when required. Bed was comfortable, I slept soundly at The Gershwin, and the bathroom was huge. Very professional, the staff were attentive and helpful when required but pretty much left me to my own devices otherwise. Even the lift up to my room was a treat! It has a great location, lots to eat and drink nearby and there are a few parks within walking distance for some quiet outdoor time. On my busy days in the city I was happy to return to this hotel to recharge and felt safe walking home to it, a particular point of note when travelling alone.

This place is my favorite place to stay in NYC when not at a friend's since it's a good deal, and does what you need it to do, with a bit of style points. The rooms are nice and cozy feeling, although modern without being too trendy. I hadn't heard about that model floor, but you can't do photography around the open areas without any prior approval.

I'm a 23 year-old grad student and this hotel is awesome. My girlfriend and i stayed here 4 nights over spring break for $423. Yes, that's an awesome deal for a great location. Let me address a few things: 1) The Staff: the staff at the Gershwin are better than any hotel I've ever stayed at. They always greet you when you walk through the lobby and are more than willing to give you advice about things to do or to help you find your way. A few of the other reviews mentioned having problems with the staff, this was in NOT my experience at all. 2. The Rooms: If you think the rooms at the Gershwin are small, you must live in a mansion. There is plenty of room for two and the room decor is very trendy (or so my girlfriend tells me.) A maid came every day, yes just like those big expensive hotels, and cleaned our room and made the bed. One final note, in our bathroom there was a poll that ran near the door. It carries hot water to the floors above and was extremely hot.

This place provided by favorite hosteling experience in NYC. Great, funky and chic decor, great coffee shop attached, and the entire city at your doorstep in this convenient location. I've already made reservations when I come back to New York on business in a few weeks.

A castle fit for an Aquarius. So unique, with funky, colorful walls adorned with original Warhol artwork on every floor. Get on the elevator. No you are not drunk, it is a hologram of a man and his apple. Discover a book at the library. A French love story perhaps? Enjoy your free wi-fi and funky lime green seat in your room, but be very cautious of your behavior if you are in the one with the 4-ft painting of Picasso, staring into your soul.

My wife and i stayed at the Gershwin hotel for 5 nights on a very cold March city break, we found this hotel to be an exellent place to stay. tha weather was very cold so any time we came back from one of our many walks we always found our room very cosy, nice and warm ( no trouble with heating as previous reviews) as was rest of hotel. The staff were all very helpful , any problem we had was taken care of, the Reception area was having a bit of a renovation when we were here, lifting old floor tiles to reveal original marble floor back to 1902 style, Our room was a bit basic, but it was warm, very comfy bed, large flat screen tv, great shower, and no noise from other rooms. We were on 6th floor ( room 631) and had no trouble with the lift, it was old, smallish but we never waited too long for its arrival. Birch coffee shop attached to hotel is a great place to start your morning, cheep n cheerful, the location of this hotel is greart, central for a lot of main attractions.

Everything about The Gershwin was very good: price, location, service, room amenities. Very nice cafe (loved the grilled cheese!). It had everything that we needed: very comfy bed, flat screen, free wifi, shampoo, hair dryer, nice towels. Even a little sitting area and windows that opened. We didn't even have any city noise! They were remodeling but it didn't bother us. We originally booked only 1 night because we weren't sure if we would like it but ended up staying for 3. Definitely recommend.
