Hi, my name is Kaitlin! I am originally from Maryland, although I lived in Boston for the last several years where I attended Northeastern University for a combined undergrad and graduate DPT program. I graduated in 2018 and have since worked primarily in pediatrics. My experience includes treating patients of all ages during every stage of their recovery. Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialty that involves the assessment and treatment of complications that are usually related to the pelvis. Examples include pain related to the low back, SIJ, and hip areas. Common conditions treated are urinary dysfunction such as incontinence, bowel leakage or constipation, and sexual dysfunction such as pain with intercourse. A comprehensive assessment of the full body is performed to get to the root of the problem. This includes both external and internal examinations (vaginal or rectal if needed) to determine the state of the pelvic floor muscles and how they are interacting with the rest of the bodies central stability system. The pelvic floor muscles form the bottom of the pelvis and attach at the tailbone and pubic bone. They play a role in stabilizing the pelvis and spine, and contribute to urinary, bowel and sexual function. Physical therapy does not only address the pelvic floor muscles, but more importantly the factors that could be contributing to the problem, including altered breathing mechanics and movement dysfunction. Treatment consists of comprehensive education, manual therapy, and specific exercises to help improve the quality of life in each patient. Research demonstrates that pelvic floor physical therapy has been highly effective in the conservative management of urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and several other conditions.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by physical therapists since the 1940s. It uses a transmission of ultrasonic waves that pass into the skin causing a vibration of local tissues. This vibration causes a deep heating in the area although no sensation of heat is usually felt by the patient. This deep heat increased local blood flow to help reduce swelling and inflammation, increase tissue relaxation and promote scar tissue breakdown.

I went on to complete my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Idaho State University in 2007. Upon graduation, I took a position at St. John’s Medical Center as the lead inpatient therapist. I started my career at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation teaching hospital in September 1996 in Lawrenceville, NJ. I worked in all departments including inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, brain injury unit, wound care, and acute care at Mercer Hospital. I moved to California in December 1999 to work for Cornerstone Physical Rehabilitation in outpatient physical therapy. I started as a staff physical therapist and then I became Director of Rehabilitation for the Pittsburg and Walnut Creek clinics. I also worked at Sportfit Physical Therapy in San Ramon, CA where I evaluated and treated orthopedic based patients and athletes. I also performed aquatic therapy. I recently moved to Jackson, WY from Austin, TX where I worked 10 years for Ascension – originally at Seton Southwest Sports Medicine and Adult Rehabilitation, and then at Seton Hays level II trauma hospital.

Hi, I’m Francine. I graduated from Central Michigan University in 1995 with a B.S. in Sports Medicine and became a NATA Certified Athletic Trainer. I then moved to Alaska and worked as a personal trainer and personal assistant for people with disabilities, which sparked my interest in physical therapy. I returned to Central Michigan University, receiving a M.S. in Physical Therapy in 2001. I moved to Jackson, Wyoming in 2005 and started Excel Physical Therapy in a local fitness facility. During that time as well, I also held a part-time position at Teton Physical Therapy, where I met Maria Lofgren. Maria and I have been co-owners of Excel Physical Therapy since 2007.

I then graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. I developed a passion for treating the women’s health population while completing my clinical rotations. The majority of my work experience has been in the outpatient setting, treating a variety of orthopedic and pelvic health conditions. I specialize in pelvic floor rehabilitation and have completed my training through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. My treatment approach includes addressing the emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of healing.
