Your pet’s oral health and hygiene are essential, particularly because pets explore and experience the world with their mouths first. Dental cleanings and treatment for disease are important, but even more important is a routine schedule for dental examinations to stop gum disease and other issues before they get out of control.
Vaccination
Sometimes, traveling with your pet will require you to acquire special documentation detailing their health and vaccination status. Our vets are happy to provide the exams and documents necessary when possible, so be sure to reach out as early as possible before your upcoming trip so we have time to get you everything you need.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Glaucoma screening measures the pressure in the eyes. This is key for senior pets as glaucoma can lead to irreversible blindness.
Nutritional Counseling
Thyroid tests: The thyroid gland is vital to the regulation of a healthy metabolism. If a pet is hyper- or hypothyroid, the symptoms can be severe and include rapid weight loss or gain, inability to regulate energy levels, and more. As pets age, it becomes increasingly important to monitor the health of their thyroid gland.
Comprehensive Examination
Like a credit card, but better. CareCredit® works just like a regular credit card, but without high interest rates, annual fees or pre-payment penalties. CareCredit® offers no-interest and low interest payment terms, zero hidden fees, and low minimum monthly payments. You can use your CareCredit® card over and over for all your pet’s follow-up care as well as annual exams and vaccines. So you can focus on what really matters, like playing fetch and learning new tricks.
Fecal Exam: This test can detect if the pet is carrying any intestinal parasites by analyzing the feces. For this test, we ask that the owner bring in a recent sample at the time of their appointment. If it is decided at a later point that a fecal test is necessary, you can drop a sample off for testing during our regular business hours at your convenience.
Pain Management
In extreme cases of dental disease, an extraction might be performed for a tooth that is past saving. For this procedure, we will use every pain management technique appropriate, and safely anesthetize the animal.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
If our groomer notices any underlying issues while they are grooming, such as signs of chronic skin irritation or parasites, it is our policy to alert you and help you schedule a veterinary appointment as soon as possible.
Most vaccines are administered annually for adult animals. Sometimes a booster may be warranted if the owner believes the animal was more likely to be exposed to a certain disease, for example if they were attacked by another animal.
For most pets, we recommend a professional cleaning to prevent rot, decay, and plaque from becoming more prevalent. This can be performed in our office with the use of an ultrasonic scaler. The pet must be sedated to perform a full cleaning, because if not it will be impossible for the veterinarian to treat the area below the gumline, where periodontal disease begins.
Cancer Treatment
Dermatitis is the general term for any affliction of the skin. Dermatitis can be caused by allergies, skin cancer, hormonal disorders, autoimmune diseases, tumors, or infections. If your pet suffers from dermatitis, they are likely irritated and uncomfortable. Just like when a human has allergies, it is enough to upset the mood and dampen the spirits.
By using x-ray waves to “see” the body instead of light waves, veterinarians are able to visualize the musculoskeletal system of patients. X-rays can diagnose afflictions such as arthritis, bone fractures, pneumonia, and many more.
Whether it’s a routine checkup or emergency surgery, you shouldn’t have to worry about how to get the best medical care for the pet you love. That’s why we’re pleased to offer CareCredit®, North America’s leading client payment program. CareCredit® lets you say “yes†to the best treatment for your pet immediately, and pay for it over time with low monthly payments that fit easily into your budget.
Declawing
Spaying and Neutering
Our doctors have extensive experience performing safe and effective spay and neuter surgeries. The morning of the surgery, please drop your pet off at our clinic without feeding them breakfast. You will be able to pick them up later the same day or the following morning, after we are able to monitor them for a few hours to ensure they are recuperating as expected. As with all surgeries, spay/neuter procedures require anesthesia, and therefore carry the risks associated. Before operation, we will schedule an appointment to determine they are healthy enough for the surgery, and the sedation. This will minimize risks of a complication.
Cherokee Hospital for Animals is proud to offer in-house laboratory testing for our clients. Our laboratory is located on-site to provide rapid and accurate diagnostic results for many routine tests such as urinalysis and complete blood count.
X-Ray
Digital radiography can be a life-saving diagnostic tool for some patients. Trained veterinary radiographers can discover serious conditions and intervene without the need for an invasive procedure such as surgery using x-ray waves.
Microchipping
A complete schedule of preventative wellness care is essential for keeping your pet health and catching any medical issues as early as possible. From routine examinations to vaccinations that protect your pet from disease, plus other services like parasite control, microchipping, and weight management, we’ll help your pet stay healthy and happy throughout their life with you.
Need to leave your pet behind during a trip? Why not leave them with the same team you trust with your pet’s health? Our boarding services give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing your pet is in the hands of true animal experts while you’re away.
Grooming
Grooming doesn’t just help your pet look his or her best - it’s also a way of caring for the health of their coat and nails. Our expert grooming services will leave your pet looking great and feeling great - all with a relaxing approach that won’t leave them overly stressed.
Senior Pet Care
As much as young pets need special veterinary attention, senior pets need even more. As your pet ages, they’ll likely experience a range of age-related issues that can include chronic discomfort, arthritis, and even a higher likelihood of cancer. We’ll help you and your pet navigate their senior years as happily and healthily as possible.
