Since I moved to Phoenix 6 years ago, seldom if ever have I walked into a restaurant and felt discriminated against. Well, not the case today. After work this afternoon, I stop to have a cocktail and meal at Dino's Greek & Italian Grill in the Goodyear/Litchfield Park area. I walk in, no one greets me, even though the sign at the entrance reads "please wait to be seated". There are many servers walking around, and all of them look at me as they go about their business, but not a single one of them acknowledges my presence. Now I'm beginning to wonder what's wrong with these people. A worker in a red shirt (the others wore black) who appears to be a manager [maybe even an owner] walks toward me, looks at me and keeps walking, speaking to customers along the way. He still hasn't acknowledged ME!. I patiently wait for someone to come over and greet me, but still no one comes. They just look at me and keep going. The worker in the red shirt walks past me again, this time walking in the opposite direction. I observe him speaking and exchanging pleasantries with other patrons who are dining.. Finally, on his way back towards me, he looks at me again and stops. I tell him I've been standing there for several minutes but none of his staff bothered to even speak to me. Seemingly unbothered by this, he says, "What can I do for you?" I say, "I'd like to be seated." He gave me that 'you're not really welcome here' look and I say, "Forget it." No way am I giving my money to a business that doesn't make me feel welcome, and he says, "Have a good day." If he'd apologized, I might have considered staying, as I'm smart enough to understand that ignorance is bliss and that he's stuck in stupid. But it was VERY obvious that he did not want to serve me. I'm an African American professional businesswoman who enjoys Greek and Italian cuisine and just eating out in general. NEVER will I set foot in Dino's Greek & Italian Grill again! Their loss. I hope if you're reading this, you will pass this review along to your family, friends and associates. Mr. Dino, this is 2015, not 1960, and this is the kind of negative publicity you get AND DESERVE for being uneducated, ignorant, overtly and blissfully discriminatory. I would rate you "00" if I could.
