Renters Beware – PARENTS… be sure and look at your students lease before they sign!! Do not listen to rental agents or believe what you read on the Uptown website. Read your lease very carefully before you sign! Monthly rates published on website are misleading and not your actual rental amount. My daughter signed a lease back in February and will move in this August. We have to pay rent August 1, 2013 and she is not able to move in until August 23, 2013!! 12 month lease is actually an 11 month 2 week lease. She does get to stay a week in to next August but they short you two weeks. It is NOT a traditional 365 day lease. They advertise 12 month lease but it is only 351 days. Because of this adjustment of time and the fact that they bill you in what they call “installments”…. The rent is actually approx $25 more per month. Rates they publish are false and misleading!!! Also if you are considering their new 10 month lease… be aware that it is actually a 9 month 1 week lease. You will pay rent on August 1, 2013 and not move in until August 23, 2013!!! I really don’t know how they legally get away with this! It is classic “bait and switch”! These deceptive advertising techniques are misleading consumers in order to attract business and are in violation of the TDPA (The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act ). I brought all of this to the attention of the manager who then contacted her district manager. They will not honor the prices on their website or the prices that were quoted to my daughter and her friends at the time of leasing. FYI – that is why you need to read the lease carefully! What they tell you is NOT what you get. My daughter should have read more carefully, looked at a calendar, and calculated the true rent amount! I am crossing my fingers and hoping that this coming year will be a good year. We are not off to a good start! Very deceptive!
