. We love our vet. His staff are very friendly and helpful. Dr. Banta is very patient with our animals. He explained to us in detail whatever questions we had during our routine checkup. The price is reasonable. He also makes recommendations for procedures only on as needed basis which is much different from other vet we went to previously. He also They are also the winner of Best Vet in Chesapeake 2011. We are really happy with them.

Parasites Treatment and Control
There was a time when parasites like fleas, ticks, and roundworms were considered mostly a nuisance. Now, however, we know that parasites can cause serious illness and even death in pets. For example, ticks can transmit infections like Lyme disease, and fleas can transmit tapeworms and Bartonella, the bacteria that causes cat-scratch fever in humans. Another type of parasite, called a heartworm, is transmitted by mosquitoes. Heartworms live in your pet's lungs and heart, causing damage to these organs, and sometimes even death. Intestinal parasites, like roundworms and hookworms, also threaten pets and are even transmissible to humans.
Pain Management
If your dog is undergoing a surgical or dental procedure, do not be afraid to ask what pain management will be provided. Most of these procedures require some postoperative pain management, though the duration of treatment will vary with the procedure. Your veterinarian has recommended that your pet have a cardiac consultation and echocardiogram performed by Dr. Herbert Maisenbacher, who is a board certified veterinary cardiologist. An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. It is a noninvasive and painless procedure, which allows the beating heart to be imaged in order to assess the structure and function of your pet's heart. In addition to this, Dr. Maisenbacher will complete a cardiovascular exam on your pet and review all pertinent medical records, including previous diagnostic test results. Based on the results of the consultation and echocardiogram, Dr. Maisenbacher will work with your veterinarian to determine the best treatment and follow-up plan.

As our pets age, the immune system weakens and the body can become less able to cope with the physical and environmental stress. This puts our pets at risk for age-related health issues which can include: arthritis, cancer, hearing and vision problems, kidney disease, liver disease, cognitive disorders, dental disease, thyroid conditions, and diabetes.

No surgery or anesthesia is required—a microchip can be implanted during a routine veterinary office visit. If your pet is already under anesthesia for a procedure, such as neutering or spaying, the microchip can often be implanted while they're still under anesthesia. The microchips presently used in pets only contain identification numbers. No, the microchip is not a GPS device and cannot track your animal if it gets lost. Although the present technology microchip itself does not contain your pet's medical information, some microchip registration databases will allow you to store that information in the database for quick reference.

X-Ray
An echocardiogram does not assess the heart rhythm or lungs. If abnormalities are suspect in these, an electrocardiogram (ECG) and/or chest X-rays may be necessary.
Microchipping
A microchip is a small, electronic chip enclosed in a glass cylinder that is about the same size as a grain of rice. The microchip itself does not have a battery—it is activated by a scanner that is passed over the area, and the radio waves put out by the scanner activate the chip. The chip transmits the identification number to the scanner, which displays the number on the screen. The microchip itself is also called a transponder. It is injected under the skin using a hypodermic needle. It is no more painful than a typical injection, although the needle is slightly larger than those used for injection.

My name is Dr. Katie Noce and I have been with the Mt. Pleasant team since 2017! I am a proud Ohio State Buckeye, where I obtained both my undergraduate degree in 2008 and my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. After two years as an equine veterinarian, I made the transition back to small animal medicine in 2014 and have been practicing in the area ever since. My professional interests include preventative care, surgery, dentistry, and ophthalmology. My husband and I share our home with Fischer, our Golden Retriever, Chloe, a calico kitty, and Bo, my childhood horse. We have also recently welcomed a beautiful little girl, Nila, to our family. In my spare time I enjoy horseback riding, exploring the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting you and your furry family members!
