There's no other place like this in Austin. I moved here from Dallas, where there's three great, well-staffed LGBT practices near Oak Lawn. My first physician in West Austin flipped out when I expressed an interest in PrEP and treated me very unprofessionally afterward. The entire practice at Downtown Doctor is LGBT-friendly and professional: the staff, the nurses and the doctor herself. They're also pretty likable, efficient, diverse in every sense and not judgy. Dr. Freeman remembered small details from my first visit almost five months ago. She also gave me options on treating my blood pressure. It's also staffed on Saturday, like my favorite LGBT clinic in Dallas. My sincerest advice to readers: Take these reviews with a grain of salt. My not-so-LGBT-friendly first doctor has a 4.5 rating.

After going around in circles with her billing department for weeks about an incorrect charge on my account I decided to go in and talk to Dr. Freeman about the charge. She admitted the charge was incorrect and agreed to resolve the charge with the billing department. Good. But then accused me of "no show"-ing two appointments a year prior to ever calling her office. She said that "just like when you miss your hair appointments you have to pay"... $90. I never "no-showed" and I will never be returning to the Downtown Doctor. I was willing to excuse the practice for having untrained staff, but when it comes from the Doctor herself, I no longer excuse it. "The computer just can't make these things up" I've worked in healthcare too long not to realize how easy it is to mess things up in a practice management software.

As far as patient care, I'm not that impressed. Her office hours and location are damn convenient... which is her only winning characteristic.

I went in there for a simple check up on my hand. I had cut it right by the nail and it was not healing. I assumed I would need antibiotics so I went in to Downtown Doctor where I was seen by Dr. Freeman. I am not one to put people on blast for being jerks, but my experience with her definitely warrants a bad review. SHE WAS EXTREMELY RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL. When I would ask a question, she would aggravatingly look at me and say something to the effect of "as I already told you...." implying I was not paying attention or was too stupid to understand. When I would ask her to expand on something she would say, "Are you going to let me finish first?" This happened like 6-7 times during my visit. God forbid I ask general questions about my symptoms. That woman is hateful and bitter. If you expect to be spoken to like and adult, I would not recommend Dr. Freeman

My husband and I were extremely unhappy with the care he received. After reviewing blood tests, Dr. Freeman told him to discontinue all his hypertension meds, despite the fact he was under the care of a nephrologist. We called and to ask her to consult with the nephrologist, since we had two sets of completely contrary recommendations. She was unavailable by phone four times, and finally (when I asked) her nurse admitted Dr. Freeman does not take phone calls. If you have a followup question, you have to come in and pay for another visit. The nephrologist was appalled by Freeman's recommendation, and upon examining the tests that prompted the recommendation, we discovered her interpretation of the tests was completely inaccurate. We cancelled his followup appointment with Freeman, but her office continued to bill us. When we called to dispute the charge, her assistant talked to her but Freeman refused to waive the charge. I feel this woman is arrogant and dangerous. Definitely avoid her.
